Date: October 25, 1950*
Location: Chongju, North Korea*

Once the North Koreans began to withdraw from the Pusan perimeter, Allied forces were quick to set off in pursuit. At times, the Communist forces seemed to be moving faster than the UN troops could pursue. The Australian Commonwealth Brigade moved rapidly to the north with Tom Dolvin's 89th Medium Tank Battalion supporting their advance. The rapidity of the pursuit caused the Allies to throw caution to the wind. As the Task Force approached the town of Chongju, the North Koreans began to consolidate their defenses. Commmunist soldiers of the 10th Division placed themselves in the hills around the town and prepared to fight.*
