MACV (Military Army Command Vietnam) has been here for nearly for a year. Yet
we have only made a limited impression on the communist insurgents. The biggest
threat to the security of the Saigon government is the reported concentration
of VC units just north of Saigon. We must eliminate this threat and destroy
any supply cache we may find. You will assist the 27th Battalion in a "sweep and clear"
operation code named "Attleboro" near the Saigon River. You are to clear Route 246 and
nearby areas of communist units. Commander, we need a high body count this time, otherwise
the public will get the impression that we are not making progress here.
