-------------------------------------------------

  1 Installation
1.1 Memory in different install level
The install program calculates the amount of
memory needed on your hard disk. Due to the
size of a cluster in MS-DOS the storage room
needed on a 1GB hard disk is more than the size
needed on a 500MB disk. The more data you place
on hard disk means, in general, that you will get
better speed in loading the game and in playing the
   movies. See 3.3
  1.2 Installation under Windows 95
  !!! CAUTION !!!
Some soundcards use different settings in
MS-DOS and Windows 95. This may cause serious problems.
Please start TFM either in Windows 95 or
in MS-DOS. Do not change between the
  operating systems. See 1.4
Sometimes the screensaver becomes active during
the installation process. This may cause the
  installation program to crash.
Please turn off your screen saver during
  installation.
  1.3 Screen stays black
  The installation procedure uses the
graphic mode 640x480x8. Due to some
  older versions of the VESA-BIOS,
which may be on your graphic card
it is possible that this mode exists,
but is defective. If this is the case
  please install VESA-BIOS 1.2. See 3.1
  1.4 Configuration of the soundcard
Once the copying of files is finished,
you have to configure your soundcard.
This may be done by the install.exe
  or manually.
Use the program setsound.exe in the
  directory drivers to configure your
  soundcard manually.
If your soundcard needs an additional
driver this should be installed before
  you start setsound.exe.
  !!! CAUTION !!!
If you have invoked setsound.exe from
Windows 95, and your soundcard was not
  detected correctly, please use the
key combination ALT-ENTER to select the
full screen mode, as you start setsound.exe
As mentioned in 1.2, some soundcard behave
differently under MS-DOS and Windows 95.
If you get problems with the sound, and you
configured TFM under Windows 95 but you use it
  in MS-DOS, run setsound.exe under MS-DOS.
Unfortunately it is not possible with some
soundcards to use the same settings in both
  operating systems.
If you have a "SET BLASTER=" string in your
autoexec.bat, those settings are used by TFM.
Please make sure, that you update this string
if you change the hardware settings in your
  soundcard (and run setsound.exe again).
  1.5 Problems starting install.exe
If there is a problem while starting
install.exe you can use install.exe with
some parameters, to avoid a crash:
NOMOUSE : deactivates the mouse cursor
    NOANIM : deactivates animations
    DEBUG : prints some messages
If cannot find a workaround with these
parameters, you have the options to install
  TFM with a batch file.

Start on the CD inst.bat as follows:
  inst CDROM-DRIVE DESTINATION LEVEL
CDROM-DRIVE is the letter of your
  CD-ROM. DESTINATION means the directory
  where TFM should be installed.
LEVEL is a number from 1 to 3.
  1 - minimum installation
  2 - standard installation
  3 - full installation (CD-Audio possible)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  2 Program start
2.1 Message "Please use setsound to
        choose a DIG-Driver."
This message will appear if your soundcard is
  not configured properly.
In this case the sound will not be used in the
game as it may cause a crash.
It is possible, that setsound.exe cannot
find the correct settings, in this case please
  configure your soundcard manually.
Make sure that you get the correct settings by
using a diagnostic program. Such a program is
usually packaged together with your soundcard.
  2.2 Problems with intro-movie
If your computer hangs at the first
picture of the intro movie, this is a
sign of an incorrectly installed soundcard.
  See 1.4
It may happen, using a slow PC or a slow
CD-ROM, that the intro movie is chopped.
You need at least a 486 DX/100 with a double
  speed CD-ROM for smooth play.
2.3 Problems after the intro movie
If problems arise after the intro movie,
there is probably a problem with your
graphics card. The program tries to invoke
the graphic mode 640x480x16 or 640x480x15.
Check your graphic card for a minimum of 1MB
memory. Check your VESA-BIOS to see if at least
one of the graphic modes is available.
  See 1.3 and 3.1

  3 Tuning of TFM
  3.1 Use of UNIVBE
You can accelerate your graphic card by
using a modern VESA driver for your
graphic card as supported by UNIVBE
from Scitech. It may support 32 bit
acceleration as well as a linear frame
buffer which may have additional benefit.
It will also support your graphic
card with additional graphic modes, such
as 640x480x15(16) as needed bay TFM.
Please check the internet for a
  new version of univbe.exe:
  www: http://www.scitechsoft.com
  ftp: ftp.scitechsoft.com
  CIS: GO SCITECH
  AOL: Keyword SciTech

  3.2 Amount of main memory
If your computer has only got 8MB RAM you will
get full functionality in TFM, but with a
  reduced graphic interface.

  3.3 Short loading times
!!! CAUTION !!!
Please always make a copy of config.sys
and autoexec.bat files before you change them.
Mistakes can cause other programs to crash.
To accelerate TFM you may try the following :
    - If you've got enough space on your hard disk
choose install level 3 (full installation).
This will accelerate the loading time.

    - Check the string "BUFFERS=" in config.sys.
A value more than 30 will be beneficial to
      TFM.
    - Load smartdrv.exe. It will accelerate your
hard disk enormously. The amount of cache
memory should be 10-25% of your main memory
(RAM). You don't need this under Windows 95
as there is a standard cache program.
    - Use "DEFRAG" to defragment your
      hard disk.

If you get other problems with TFM call our technical
support hotline on 01625 (+44 1625) 850871)

Have fun, with best regards,
