I. NEW FEATURES AND MANUAL UPDATES:

A. Running the Gateway Without Autorun Enabled
----------------------------------------------
To run the gateway if you do not have autorun enabled open Windows
Explorer (Start..Programs..Windows Explorer), select your CD-ROM
drive and double-click on AUTORUN.EXE.

Once the games have been installed, you can insert the Ultima
Collection CD-ROM and select the Ultima Collection autorun shortcut
in Ultima Collection Program Group in the Start menu (default is
Start..Programs..Ultima Collection).

B. Getting Around the Gateway
-----------------------------
At any time, you can exit the gateway by hitting the [ESC] key.

To PLAY a video, click once on the button for the video you wish to
see. Note that the Lord British Speaks button plays the video on the
individual Ultima game listings in the Ultima Collection area.

If you would like to STOP the video, click on the same button a second
time. If you click on a different button, the movie will stop and
the appropriate action for that button (e.g. playing a different video)
will be carried out.

C. The Shortcuts Installed
--------------------------
Game Shortcuts: There is a regular shortcut to run Akalabeth and
Ultima 1 through 6 in a Windows 95 DOS window (the games will run
faster the faster your computer).

Speed Adjusted Shortcuts: These shortcuts for Ultima 1 through 6 are
set up to run the games after running MoSlo first, automatically
slowing down the game. If you find the game still runs too fast/slow
you can change your settings while in the game. Please refer to the
MoSlo documentation for more information.

Docs: There is a help file shortcut installed for each game that you
install. To view these files you must first insert your Ultima
Collection CD into the CD-ROM drive.

MoSlo documentation: This details how to use moslo and various features
available, including changing the slowdown speed while in the game.

Ultima Collection Autorun: Runs the autorun (requires that the Ultima
Collection CD be in the CD-ROM drive).

Credits/Help: Runs the Ultima Collection Credits/Help file.

D. Running Akalabeth and U1-6 Full Screen
-----------------------------------------
If Akalabeth or Ultima 1 through 6 are running in a window and you
would like it to take up the entire screen, click on the button with
four red arrows pointing outward.

E. Running Akalabeth and U1-6 in a Window.
------------------------------------------
If you are running Akalabeth or Ultima 1 through 6 full screen and
would like to run in a window, hit ALT+ENTER. NOTE: Depending on
your system, you may not be able to run some of the Ultima games in
a window.

F. Creating New Characters
--------------------------
In Akalabeth and Ultima 1 through 6, if you would like to create a
new character, you generally have to delete an existing character.
Here are some notes on the games and the number of characters they
support.

Akalabeth, Ultima 4 and Ultima 5 support one character at a time.
If you create a new character, it will replace the previous one.

Ultima 1 and Ultima 3 allow you to create up to four characters.
If you try to create more than four, it will ask you to replace
one of the existing ones.

Ultima 2 supports one character. You must delete the game and
reinstall to create a new character.

Ultima 6 supports one character at a time. To create a new
character you will need to run INSTALL from the Ultima 6 directory.
This will delete your previous character.

G. Help Files: Disabling the "Always on Top" Feature
----------------------------------------------------
If you would like to prevent the help files from always running on
top of the other windows, right-click in the help file, select
Keep Help on Top and then Not on Top. It will now behave like a
normal window.

H. Uninstalling the Games
-------------------------
The Ultima Collection can be uninstalled using the Uninstall button on
the Gateway. You can also uninstall the game through the Windows 95
Add/Remove Programs dialog. To do so, click on Start..Settings..
Control Panel, double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon and select
Ultima Collection from the list.

I. A Note on Mouse Drivers
--------------------------
Ultima 8 requires a DOS-based mouse driver. For the mouse to function
in Ultima 7 and Serpent Isle, a DOS-based mouse driver is also needed.
This driver needs to be loaded in your shortcut when you reboot to DOS
to run these games. If you have troubles loading the driver, please
contact your computer manufacturer to determine where to find the
appropriate driver.

Windows 95 uses a different mouse driver which does not function in
DOS. This is why you need to make sure you have a DOS-based mouse
driver.

J. The Demos (Wing Commander Prophecy and Sid Meier's Gettysburg!)
------------------------------------------------------------------
You can install both of these demos from the Ultima Collection gateway
in the Product Previews/Demos section. If you would like to install
them manually, go to the DATA directory on the CD-ROM and run:

SMGDEMO.EXE to run the Sid Meier's Gettysburg! Demo
	installation.

WCPSETUP.EXE to run the Wing Commander Prophecy Demo setup
	program.

Please refer to the README.TXT files for each of these games for more
information.

K. Getting Sound in Akalabeth
-----------------------------
Akalabeth originally shipped just using the PC speaker for sound.
However, in the PC port MIDI music was added. If you would like
to set the sound up so you can hear the MIDI music go to the
Akalabeth directory on your hard drive and run SETUP.EXE. Once
you have selected your appropriate soundcard and settings, click on
Save and Exit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
II. TROUBLESHOOTING:

A. Microsoft's ActiveMovie
--------------------------
The Ultima Collection gateway requires Microsoft's ActiveMovie in order
to play the videos. The gateway will check to see if you have it
installed when you first run and prompt you to install it if it does
not find it.

To install it manually, go to the DATA directory on the Ultima
Collection CD and run AMOVIE.EXE.

B. The Movies Do Not Play in the Gateway
----------------------------------------
If you click on a button to play a movie and the movies do not play,
you may not have ActiveMovie installed. See Above.

C. Ultima 8: "Fatal Error: ###.### file not found
C:\MWW\DLL\AILXMI.DLL" <or> "Fatal Error: ###.### file not found
C:\MWD\MANAGER\AILXMI.DLL"
--------------------------
The error message is referring to a particular MWAVE sound card
driver that you don't have installed. We have actually included
that MWAVE driver on the Ultima Collection CD, so you will just need
to copy the driver to the correct location on your hard drive.

To copy the file, go to a DOS prompt, and then type in this line
and press the [Enter] key:

	COPY C:\UC\ULTIMA8\AILXMI.DLL C:\MWW\DLL

This should copy the ailxmi.dll driver to the appropriate MWAVE
directory. After this file copies, the game should recognize your
sound card and run properly.

D. Error when running the autorun: "The AUTORUN.EXE file is linked to
   missing export OLEAUT32.DLL: 420."
-------------------------------------
You have an older OLEAUT32.DLL driver on your system. You can install
and play the games, but to view the autorun you will need to replace
this driver with a newer driver included on the Ultima Collection CD.
Follow these directions to do so.

WARNING: Always make a backup of your original driver. In rare cases
the newer driver may prevent certain applications from running.

1. Open Explorer (Click Start..Programs..Windows Explorer)
2. Click on the Ultima Collection CD-ROM
3. Find OLEAUT32.DLL, left-click and drag it to C: drive.
4. Close Explorer and all other programs.
5. Click on Start and select Shut Down.
6. Select Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode and click Yes. This
should place you at a DOS Prompt.
7. Type the following:

   XCOPY C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OLEAUT32.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\*.OSI [ENTER]

This makes a backup of your original driver called OLEAUT32.OSI.

NOTE: If your Windows 95 is located in a different drive or
directory, change WINDOWS\SYSTEM to the appropriate drive and
   directory.
8. Now type:

   XCOPY C:\OLEAUT32.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\*.* [ENTER]

9. This should ask you if you want to replace the file, type "Y" for
   yes.
10. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and reboot your computer.
11. The autorun should now function normally.

E. Ensoniq Audio PCI (Gateway):
-----------------------------
The Ensoniq Audio PCI requires the use of an older memory
manager called EMM386 when running in DOS mode. The EMM386 memory
manager conflicts with Ultima VII: The Black Gate, Ultima VII:
Serpent Isle, and Ultima 8 (along with other more recent games).
Since the Ensoniq Audio PCI will not function without this memory
manager loading, you will not be able to hear music or sound effects
in those games, and will need to configure them for no sound.

F. Large Fonts and the Help Files
----------------------------------
If you have Windows 95 set to use large fonts the fonts will extend
beyond the edges of the pre-sized help files. To view the help
files as intended, right click on an empty space on your desktop
(somewhere with no icon) and select Properties. Click on the Settings
tab and change Font size to Small fonts then click OK.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
III. COMMON SOUND CARD LINES:
The sound card lines listed are the common default lines for the
various cards listed. The lines for your system may vary depending upon
the model and settings of your sound card. If you cannot determine
the proper drivers and settings for your card, contact your computer
manufacturer and ask for help setting up your sound card in DOS.
