1. WINDOWS AND MICROSOFT DIRECT X

Windows 95 uses Microsoft Direct X, that is included on the CD and can
be installed from the setup program. Windows NT 4.x does not require
Microsoft DirectX as it is already part of the operating system.
Microsoft DirectX doesn't work with previous versions of Microsoft NT

If you have problems running Windows 95 after the Microsoft DirectX
drivers have been installed, please contact Microsoft technical support at:

International : 001-206-882-8080

but you can also launch the game through the Start menu.

2.3. VIDEO CARDS

- S3 Vision 968: If you have a video card with a Vision 968
chipset such as Diamond Stealth 64 3000 Series, #9 Motion 771, etc..
you will need to get the latest DirectX drivers from your retailer or
video card manufacturer.

- S3 Virge3D: If you have a card with the Virge 3D chip, use ONLY the
Virge driver from the DirectX 3.0 CD and NOT the manufacturer driver

- Tseng chipsets: Use the drivers that come with DirectX if You
have problems under Windows (the drivers supplied by Tseng
are not compatible as of release date).

- 3Dlabs GLINT Delta: As of the release date, drivers seems to have
some problems. Specific drivers supporting DirectX will be available soon.

-Matrox Millennium: In case of palette glitches, please
get the latest video driver from their website.

2.4. SOUND CARDS

Versailles needs a Windows 95 compatible sound card.
Should you encounter any problems with your sound card, make sure
that all current Windows 95 and DirectX compatible drivers are
installed and, if necessary, contact your sound card manufacturer.

For instance, Aztec Sound Galaxy: Incompatibilities between Windows DirectSound and
the Aztec drivers might be noticed. Please contact Your retailer or Aztec to
get the newest version of the drivers

2.5. COMPATIBILITY

You may have to remove the Microsoft PowerToys system extensions
if You experience a black screen upon booting

The Merlin assistant (NEC computers) might have to be disabled.
Contact NEC technical support at (800) 632-4554 for further details.

2.6. IMPROVING GAME SPEED

There is a possibility of slower game play on slower systems
while music is playing. For better performance, the music
volume should be set to zero. Music and sound volumes may be
set by using the Options menu while playing Diablo.

You can change the cache size of your CD-ROM to increase
performances and decrease CD load times :
START / SETTINGS / CONTROL PANELS /
SYSTEM /PERFORMANCE / FILE SYSTEMS / CD-ROM .

If you have less than 16MB of RAM, you will have to set your cache size to minimum.
If you have more than 16MB of RAM, you can increase cache size if possible.

Another method of increasing performances of a 8MB system
(in general and for Versailles) is to upgrade by adding RAM to your computer.
Windows 95 uses about 2.5 MB of your available RAM, and then Versailles
might need to use virtual memory.

You can use either a shareware program such as UniVBE, install
the VESA drivers that come with your video card or get
the latest drivers from your video card manufacturer.

4. NOTE

In the manual, several rooms are mislabeled. The Bassona Antechamber
is actually the room next to The Badchamber of the king. The Hall of
Guards is on the other side of The Queen's Staircase.
