$ Germans had anticipated the dominating role of tanks in the coming conflict. Protection of Wehrmacht$
$infantry troops against enemy armoured units became crucial. At the beginning of World War II the main$
$anti-tank weapon was a 37mm gun Pak35/36. Every infantry regiment had a twelve-gun company on its roster.$
$Additionally, every infantry division possessed an anti-tank battalion comprising 36 guns. That battalion$
$was a reserve unit, that could be employed in dangerous situations.$
$ Pak35/36 anti-tank gun was designed in 1933. Its range was as high as 6800 m, although practical range$
$was much smaller. It was able to pierce armour up to 34 mm at 100 m and 27 mm at 600 m.$
$ After campaign in France in June 1940 these guns were gradually withdrawn and replaced with more powerful$
$constructions.$
