e$ Polish mobilisation plan assumed that seven machine gun battalions should be fielded as reserves for army $
$commanders. Every battalion consisted of three machine gun companies and a single rifle company. Machine $
$gun battalions were an excellent addition to the defence of fortified lines. Apart from seven battalions $
$mentioned above, a few additional battalions were created to defend fortifications of Silesia, Osowiec, $
$Nowogrod and Lomza. Also a few Home Guard battalions were organised in form of machine gun battalions. $
$7th machine gun battalion, together with 2nd legionary infantry regiment held 'Gory Borowskie' fortified $
$line against assaults of 4th Panzerdivision for two days. In Silesia, their sturdy fight stalled the German$
$advance. Only after the threat of encirclement, these units withdrew and fought together with other units $
$of 'Krakow' Army until the lost battle at Tomaszow Lubelski. $
