$ Since 1926 there had been construction works carried out concerning light infantry supporting tanks. $
$The efforts were unsuccessful. For this reason it was decided to purchase several tens of Vickers E tanks $
$in Great Britain along with the rights for production under a licence. The tank mentioned above was never $
$a part of British army equipment, however it became the basis for many foreign constructions, among others $
$Soviet (T26), Czech (LT35) and Polish (7TP). In Poland the development works over the new tank lasted until $
$1936 when first 7TP tanks began their service operation. In comparison with the original the new tank had $
$different armaments (finally a 37 mm Bofors cannon), driving gear and armour. 7TP tank as the first tank in $
$the world was equipped with a Diesel engine. As far as the tactical and technical parameters are concerned $
$7TP was equal or superior to German tanks used to attack Poland. After the beginning of serial production $
$of 7TP tank construction works started in relation to its successor - a heavier, better armoured and $
$equipped tank. Such activities caused the disorganisation of 7TP tank's production. The production of 7TP $
$tank was stopped for over half year. It caused a serious reduction in the number of this kind of tanks $
$used in regular troops. $
