$ Armoured trains were a very important part of Polish armoured forces. In September 1939 Polish Army had $
$at its disposal ten modern armoured trains. There were light (armed with 2 guns and 10 machine guns) and $
$heavy (armed with 4 guns and 18 machine guns) armoured trains. They consisted of a locomotive, always $
$located in the middle of the train, two artillery-vans and an infantry-van. On both ends there were trucks $
$loaded with armoured trolleys and spare rails for repairing damaged or destroyed railroads. The main $
$disadvantage of Polish armoured trains was the lack of A/A armament. In fact, only enemy planes could $
$seriously threaten these vehicles. Armoured trains were a valuable, mobile support for Polish infantry. $
$For example, intervention of armoured train 'Smialy' at Mokra, broke German armoured attack against $
$positions of 'Wolynska' cavalry brigade. Armoured trains role was decreased by damage caused to the railway$
$network by German bombers. Immobilised this way, trains became a prey for German diving bombers. $
