(2) INSTALLATION

(i)	Motor Mash Exintro
When the game is installed, it will place 2 shortcuts in the Windows
START menu (Motor Mash and Motor Mash Exintro). Selecting the
Motor Mash icon will result in the standard version of the game starting.
Selecting the Motor Mash Exintro icon will start a version of Motor Mash
which does not feature the games introduction animation, this can be used
to speed up loading or if there are problems with the games introduction on your machine.

(ii)	Manual installation of Motor Mash
When the Motor Mash CD is inserted into a CD ROM drive, it will autorun and begin the installation process (provided it is not already present on the system). To manually begin an installation of Motor Mash, the user will have to run the SETUP.EXE program on the Motor Mash CD.
This can be done by opening the Windows START menu and selecting the 'Run' option. A window will then open asking the user to type in the name of the program, folder or document for Windows to open. In the space provided type your CD ROM drive letter (eg. D:\) followed by 'SETUP.EXE' (therefore on a machine where the CD ROM drive is drive D, the user will need to type 'D:\SETUP.EXE'). Once this is done, press OK and the Motor Mash installation program should begin to run.

(3) DIRECT X

(i) When Direct X is installed, it will often remove any powerdesk utilities
that the video card may have been using (eg. with the Matrox Millennium video
card the Matrox Powerdesk will be removed). This is a feature of DirectX and
should not cause any problems with the configuration or operation of the
machine.

If you encounter any problems installing DirectX on your computer, please
contact Microsoft directly.

(4) VIDEO CARDS

(i)	Accelerated mode
In the 'Display' section of the options menu, there is an option to turn hardware acceleration ON or OFF. The option to turn acceleration ON will be present even if the video card currently in the machine does not support it. if your video cards hardware acceleration is not supported, the game may crash or suffer from corrupted graphics when run.

During the testing of the game, the best acceleration was found to occur on cards with the following chipsets
3DFX accelerator cards (Voodoo or Voodoo 2 based).
Nvidia's RIVA 128 chipset (eg. Diamond Viper 330).

The game was NOT accelerated or did not work correctly with hardware acceleration ON with the following chipsets/cards
ATI Rage Pro (eg. ATI Xpert @ Play)
ATI Rage II	(eg. ATI 3D Expression)
Rendition Verite V1000 (eg. 3D Blaster)
Matrox Mystique or Matrox Mystique 220
Matrox Millennium or Matrox Millennium II
	S3 Virge/VX (eg. Diamond Stealth 3D 3000)
	S3 Virge/GX (eg. STB Nitro 3D)
Cirrus Logic GD5464 (eg. Videologic GrafixStar 550)
Voodoo Rush based cards (eg. Hercules Stingray 128)
Power VR I or II based cards (eg. Matrox M3D)
For all these cards, users are advised to run the game with the hardware acceleration option set to OFF.

(ii)	Game not running in selected resolution
It was found that some older video cards would not run the game with acceleration turned OFF in the resolution selected by the user. If this is the case, the game will default to a setting of 640*480.
If the game runs too slowly to be playable in this resolution, the user is advised to run the DOS version of the game.
This was found to be a problem with the following cards
	Diamond Viper 9100 (PCI)
	Western Digital Paradise 64 (PCI)
	Diamond Edge 3D 2000 (PCI)
	Macronix MXIC 86251 (PCI)
Hercules Stingray 128 (PCI) - This card will not work correctly in 320*200, but it will work in 320*240 mode without any problems.

(iii)	SiS Onboard video card
The Windows version of Motor Mash was found to not work on machines that had an SiS onboard video card (SiS 5598 (integrated VGA) chipset). The only solution for this problem was found to be to run the DOS version of the game instead.

(iv)	Problems with introduction
If any problems are encountered during the playing of the introduction animation, it is possible to start the game with 'Motor Mash ExIntro' (see section 2 (i) above for details).
To view the introduction separately using Windows default animation player, open the Windows START menu and select the 'Run' option. A window will then open asking the user to type in the name of the program, folder or document for Windows to open. In the space provided type your CD ROM drive letter (eg. D:\) followed by 'MISC\OCEAN2.AVI' (therefore on a machine where the CD ROM drive is drive D, the user will need to type 'D:\MISC\OCEAN2.AVI'). The default Windows movie player will then open, allowing the user to view the introduction.
Another solution is to run the DOS version of the game, no problems were encountered whilst running the introduction on the DOS version of Motor Mash.

(v)	3DFX resolutions
When running the game with a 3DFX card and hardware acceleration turned ON, the game will always be displayed in a minimum resolution of 640*480, regardless of the setting in the games video options menu.

(vi)	Minimising game with 3DFX accelerator card
If Motor Mash is being run on a machine with a 3DFX video accelerator card,
users are advised not to minimise the game during a race.

(vii)	Graphical corruption with Matrox cards
If any graphical corruption is encountered when running the game with hardware acceleration OFF on a machine with a Matrox video card (from either the Matrox Mystique or Matrox Millennium family of cards), there is a patch on the Motor Mash CD that can be used. The patch is located in the 'MATROX' directory on the CD, simply copy the MOTORMSH.EXE file from this directory into the games installation directory (choosing to overwrite the previous version of the file that will already be present). When Motor Mash is next run, the graphical problems should not occur.

(5)	SOUND CARDS

(i)	Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 sound cards
It was found that a combination of a Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 sound card and a Rendition Verite V1000 based video card (eg. Creative Labs 3D Blaster, Miro Crystal VRX) would result in the sound effects being corrupted throughout the introduction and game.
If this problem is encountered, the user is advised to run the DOS version of Motor Mash which should function correctly.

(6) WINDOWS CONFIGURATION

(i) Virtual Desktops
If Windows is configured with a Virtual Desktop, the user is advised to
deactivate it before running Motor Mash as the Windows screen resolution may
change to that of the Desktop upon exiting.

(ii)	Active Desktop
If the game is being played on a machine with the Active Desktop function of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4, upon exiting it may be found that the Windows taskbar has moved up the screen slightly. This problem can be rectified by simply dragging the taskbar back down to its previous setting using the mouse.

(iii)	Minimising Introduction
Whilst the Motor Mash introduction is playing, it is recommended that the user does not minimise it or press a mouse button until it has finished. If the user does not wish to view the introduction, it can be bypassed by pressing <ESCAPE>.

(7)	CD ROM DRIVES

(i) Multi CD ROM drives
When installing the game on a machine with a multi CDROM drive
(ie. one that is capable of holding more than one CD), users are
advised that they should place the Motor Mash CD in the first
tray.

(8)	NETWORK GAMES

(i)	Changing options during a Network game
When running a network game, the Host machine should not change any of the options/functions whilst people are joining in.

(ii)	Disconnecting a Network game
After disconnecting from a network game, it is recommended that Motor Mash be exited and reloaded before trying to start a new network game.

(9) UNINSTALLATION

(i)	Uninstallation Problems
If any problems are encountered during the uninstallation of Motor Mash, it is recommended that the user re-installs the game (instructions on how to do this are found above in section 2 (ii) 'Manual installation of Motor Mash'). Once this is done, running the uninstall program again should result in the game being removed from the system without any problems.

(ii)	Reboot after Uninstallation
Please note, after the game has been uninstalled, the user will be given options to 'Reboot' or 'cancel'. If 'Reboot' is selected the machine will restart Windows, please ensure that all work is saved and all programs are closed before selecting this otherwise data may be lost.

(10)	TROUBLESHOOTING

If there are any problems running the game, there are a few things the user
can try to solve the problem.
(i) Install Direct X separately.
Direct X can be manually be installed by the user. This is done by exploring
the CD (achieved by clicking on the CD icon within My Computer with button 2
of the mouse), entering the 'directx' directory and running the 'dxsetup'
program. From here the 'Reinstall DirectX' option should be selected.
(ii) Reinstall game
Sometimes, problems can be solved by simply uninstalling Motor Mash and then
reinstalling it again.
(iii) Close all other applications before running Motor Mash
(iv)	Run DOS version of Motor Mash
If problems are still occurring, try running the DOS/BRender version of Motor Mash (see the games manual for instructions on installing this version).
