Colonization for Windows

Installation Notes:
-Colonization will run under almost all configurations of desktop sizes and color
depths, ( even 16 color mode, though 16 color mode looks horrible). However,
Colonization will run best at 256 color mode. You will notice a speed difference if you
configure Windows to run in more than 256 colors. It will run more slowly.

	- In order for you to hear the music provided on the CD, the "[MCI]CD Audio"
device driver must be present among Windows Device Drivers. If you do not hear any
music when Colonization starts, you will want to check and make sure the device driver
is available. In the Main Window on the Windows Desktop, double-click the "Control
Panel" icon. In the Control Panel, double-click the "Drivers" icon. Look among the list
for "[MCI]CD Audio". If [MCI]CD Audio is not present, press the "Add" button. A
selection box will present a list of drivers from which to select "[MCI] CD Audio". This
driver is provided on your Windows Installation Disks (the program will prompt you for
a diskette to insert). Restart Windows and try to load the game again.

Game Play Notes:
-A right mouse click on an active blinking colonist pops up the Orders Menu.

-A right mouse click anywhere in the Colonization Desktop (outside game
windows) pops up the File menu.

	- If,during the normal play of the game, you should encounter a LOW MEMORY
WARNING, you should immediately save your game and exit Colonization. Quit all
open applications and exit Windows. After restarting Windows and Colonization you
should be able to load a save game and continue play as normal.

-All save games for the Windows Version are compatible with the DOS Version,
and vice versa. However, save games that have the Cheat Mode enabled from the DOS
version are not compatible with the Windows Version and may cause the Windows
version to crash horribly. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

-The Windows version of Colonization does not incorporate the Cheat Mode. This
feature may make an appearance later.

-The Colonization CD must be in your CD-ROM drive in order for you to hear
the background music. Additionally, the audio outputs from your CD ROM must be
routed to your speakers. Check to make sure the disc is in the drive and the speakers are
correctly connected before calling Technical Support.

-You can play any of your favorite audio CDs while playing Colonization, if you
like. Simply place one of your audio CDs in the CD-ROM drive and you'll hear our
whimsical shuffle play.

-The background music will stop playing if you eject the CD from your CD-ROM
drive during play. To reset the CD ROM player, select Sound Options from the File
menu. Turn Background Music OFF then ON again; select OK. The music should
resume.

-In the View Menu on the Main Display, a new menu item, Default Desktop is
available. This will arrange all game windows to conform to the size of your
Colonization Desktop.

-Water Color Cycling( animated rivers and coastlines ) is not currently featured in
this version of Colonization, despite being an option available under the Game Options
menu. Future versions may contain this option.

Additional Items:
If you wish to enjoy the music for Colonization outside of the confines of your
computer, you can take the CD out of your CD-ROM and put it into your Audio CD
player. It's just that simple!

All fife and drum music was transcribed from original sources by Ken Lagace and Roland
Rizzo. All traditional tunes were arranged and performed by Jeff Briggs, in addition to
original scores. All music was engineered at MPS LABS Studios, Hunt Valley, by Mark
Reis.
