The TDC Index Misc notes on games that were interesting, weird or require some explanation. This page is for games released from 1981-1989 ==1981== * Arithmetic Games Set 1 [f1] (1981)(IBM, Science Research Associates) [Strategy, Educational].zip - The [f1] was needed because the game screws around with memory in a funny way, producing weird side effects on newer PCs (and in DOSBox). * Miser's House, The (1981)(M.J. Lansing, Tom Croley) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - formerly in 1990, but that was likely based off the timestamp alone. This is a compiled basic release of a game that was on many early platforms. This version was most definitely not created in 1981 as the .exe file has exepack on it and needs DOS 2.1 to run, so 1983 at the earliest. * Square, The (1981)(David N. Smith) [Strategy].zip - earlier version, different from the 1983 version * Zork II- The Wizard of Frobozz r22 [DC] (1981)(Infocom, Inc.) [Interactive Fiction, Adventure] - If Zork 2 game out in 1981, then there may be a very early release of Zork 1 out there? The booter images I have of Zork 1 are 1983 onward, but release 75 or higher. Some infocom titles that have corresponding [DC]'s with the same release # are technically different, so they were added. The [DC]'s do not use the setup.inf and do not allow you to switch column widths. ==1982== * 3D Tic-Tac-Toe [a1] (1982)(Reza Beheshti) [Strategy].zip - slightly different .bas file. wow. I think actually the end was modified after the game was released. (source is in lower case) * 3D Tic-Tac-Toe [a2] (1982)(Reza Beheshti) [Strategy].zip - Compiled. * 3D Tic-Tac-Toe [a2] (1982)(Reza Beheshti) [Strategy].zip - Also compiled, doesn't play music and is in a different palette. * Anti-Ballistic-Missile [a1] (1982)(Ed Davis) [Action] - different file size of main .exe? No other differences detected. * Astro-Dodge (1982)(Digital Marketing Corporation) [Action].zip - requires CGA only. * Battle of the Bulge- Tigers in the Snow, The (1982)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy, War] - game diskette says 1981, but ads for the title in CGW say available in Dec 1982. CGW Mar-Apr '82 does not list IBM PC as one of the formats published, only Apple/TSR-80; CGW Jul-Aug '82 has ad for this game, does not mention IBM PC, only Apple/Atari; CGW Nov-Dec '82 lists PC version of this game out by Dec. 1 '82. CGW Jan-Feb '83 has ad depicting this game as being "Now Available" for IBM-PC [official SSI advertisement] along with "Epidemic!" & "The Warp Factor" Judging that the ad says the game is already available ("Best of all, these games are ripe for the picking at your local computer/game store today!") * Bit-Bat [h1] (1982)(Software Strategies Inc.) [Action].zip - hacked to remove date+distributor information * BurgerTime [a2][DC] (1982)(Mattel Electronics) [Action].zip - works ok until you attempt to redfine the keys. non a1/b1 version is the best! * Call to Arms [a1] (1982)(Sirius Software, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - different cta.bas. different file size. Didn't truly compare, so it may just be a different save type from different basic interpreters. Fixed call.doc too. (had stray high ascii characters in file.) * Chomp (1982)(Ensign Software) [Action].zip - This appears to be an earlier version of the game "Chomps" released by SoftSmith in 1983. A binary compare shows that the 1983 version allows for joystick centering for example. * Crossfire [DC][a1] (1982)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action].zip - Different header (The duplicators) for loading. Bytes at 0xbc0-0xbef different, not sure what/why or which is original yet. * Dunjonquest- Temple of Apshai (1982)(Epyx, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - starting password is "Abdual" * Floppy Frenzy [DC][a1] (1982)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - alternate crack * Fuzzy Worm [f1] (1982)(Boise Computer) [Action].zip - Patched out some silliness so it runs from any drive letter * LCM v2D [b1] (1982)(Anonymous) [Action, Simulation].zip - Missing required file TERRAIN.PIC - best known dump * Microsoft Decathlon [DC] (1982)(IBM) [Sports].zip - CGA only. * Microsoft Flight Simulator [DC] (1982)(Microsoft) [Simulation] (variants) Most will display some corrupt data at first loading under DOSBox; this happens on real hardware too, it's a video card/emulation thing. All early booter copies of FS are in process of being converted to running under pure DOS, but they are a nightmare to work with (1k sectors, etc) This http://www.volny.cz/havlikjosef/fshistoryenglish.htm is probably the best source for all early FS disks. * Night Mission Pinball [DC][a1] (1982)(subLOGIC) [Simulation].zip - different conversion. technically done in 1997, or so the strings say. * Novatron [a1] (1982)(VeriSoft Works) [Action].zip - single byte differences at the same location on these alts. what's up with that? * Novatron [a2] (1982)(VeriSoft Works) [Action].zip - likely embedded score info; storing game info in the .exe itself. * Pac-Gal [a1] (1982)(Al J. Jimenez) [Action].zip - later release, (sep 82 instead of may 82) doesn't ask for a speed variable at start. * Pac-Gal [h2] (1982)(Al J. Jimenez) [Action].zip - hacked credits, date * Paratrooper [DC][h1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Says (c) 1984 by "the duplicators" but the game was originally published in 1982 by Orion Software. * Paratrooper [DC][h1][o1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - overdump of the same hack * Paratrooper [DC][tr Sp] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - portions converted to Spanish, but not the instructions or title screen. weird. * PC-MAN [a1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - non [a1] can quit to DOS with ESC at any time. [a1] can't quit to DOS, but saves and loads highscores. * PC-MAN [a2] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - different file * PC-MAN [a3] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - different file * PC-MAN [h1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Date changed to 1993 on title screen. * PC-MAN [h2] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Known as "Pac-Man (Fr) (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip" but it is entirely a hack job of Orion Software's work. * PC-MAN [h3] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Known as "Pac-Man (Fr) [a1] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip" * PC-MAN [h4] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - And now someone hacked the French hack and converted it back to english! Known as "Pac-Man [tr En] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip" * Racer Jammer (1982)(Anonymous) [Action, Racing - Driving].zip - requires mono, won't run with CGA or higher * Ramsak [h1] (1982)(Heigen Corporation) [Action].zip - Graffiti hacked by Italsoft. * Snipes [a2] (1982)(SuperSet Software Corp.) [Action].zip - I believe this is closer to the original release. * Snipes [h1] (1982)(SuperSet Software Corp.) [Action].zip - hacked with swear words * StarQuest- Star Warrior [f1] (1982)(Epyx, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - fixed memory allocation so that it doesn't run out of memory in most BASICs. * UFO (1982)(Tom Anderson) [Action].zip - Author's name isn't shown, but it's mentioned in PC-Green disk 004 from Dynacomp (CONTENTS.004) * Worm (1982)(Mark D. Miller) [Action].zip - requires mono, won't run with CGA or higher * X-Wing Fighter v4.0 [a1] (1982)(International PC Owners) [Action].zip - i think this is merely a different compile of the BAS source in the non [a1] * XO-Fighter [h1] (1982)(Heigen corporation) [Action].zip - Graffiti hacked by Italsoft. ==1983== * AdventureWriter [f1] (1983)(Gilsoft) [Adventure, Editor].zip - Patched boot.exe to not reference A: drive. copy protection patch (same offsets in EDT80.EXE) - crack:
Comparing files EDT40.EXE and EDT40.EX_

* Aftermath of the Asimovian Disaster (1983)(Tim Hartnell) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - Year/author source: these all appeared in Tim Hartnell's book "Creating Adventure Games on Your Computer" (1983). The book says he originally wrote them on the IBM PC. See- http://www.atariarchives.org/adventure/ * Air Trax [a1] (1983)(Presearch Incorporated) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - both are v1.0, but totally different compile. weird. * B-1 Nuclear Bomber (1983)(Avalon Hill) [Simulation].zip - Title screen says 1980, but since the PC didn't exist until 1981, that's a pretty good trick. We believe it came out in 1983, and here's some proof: The '83 edition of CGW indicating that Avalon Hill has just added three new titles to their IBM PC lineup; B-1 NUCLEAR BOMBER, VC and COMPUTER FOOTBALL STRATEGY. * Battlezone [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action, Simulation].zip - missing (c) and credits, different loader. * Battlezone [DC][h4] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action, Simulation].zip - this was formerly the non [h] version, but it appears that for whatever reason the copyright notice was lowercased. it's possible that it's a later official release, but for now it's a hack. * Beneath Apple Manor [DC][b1] (1983)(Quality Software) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - tagged as bad because final image of the golden apple doesn't show up in DOS conversion, but does when played off diskette. this DC was (poorly) done by hargle and needs to be re-done. * Big Top [DC][b1] (1983)(Funtastic, Inc.) [Action].img.zip - Unfortunately we lost the info as to why this image was marked bad. It does boot in CGA, may be missing composite support * Big Top [DC][a1] (1983)(Funtastic, Inc.) [Action].zip - DOS Conversion by demonlord, 1998 * Bluebush Chess [tr Es] (1983)(Bluebush Software) [Strategy, Chess].zip - formerly known as Ajedrez (Es) (1988)(J.V. Enterprises S.A.) [Strategy, Chess].zip but was discovered it's actually a hack an translation, so all credits and release date removed to not encourage such behavior. * Bumble Games (1983)(IBM) [Educational].zip - cracked, playable! * Bumble Plot [f1] (1983)(IBM) [Strategy, Educational].zip - Game was in basic and used the "list blocker" protection as well as checking the key disk in each sub-game. All basic source code is now listable and all key disk checks have been removed. Runs off hard drive. * Buzzard Bait (1983)(Sirius) [Action].zip - will require true CGA * Buzzard Bait [h1] (1983)(Sirius Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - hacked for infinite lives. This hack corrupts the # of lives remaining on the display. * Centipede [a1] (1983)(R. J. Grafe) [Action].zip - additional stack space. yay. non [a1] includes docs. * Centipede [h1] (1983)(R. J. Grafe) [Action].zip - cracked by mr cool dude graffiti * Centipede [tr Es][h1] (1983)(R. J. Grafe) [Action].zip - translated to spanish and then hacked to remove credits. * Chateau Gaillard (1983)(Tim Hartnell) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - See note for Aftermath... at top of section * Citadel of Pershu, The (1983)(Tim Hartnell) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - See note for Aftermath... at top of section * Conquest [DC][h1] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - very graffitied title screen * Conquest [DC][h2] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - likewise, except this time by our own trixter. * Creature Creator (1983)(DesignWare Inc.) [Educational].img.zip - fixed disk image. Creature Creator has a fairly fatal bug in the runtime code. At first I thought it was copy protection, but it turns out it is much more sinister. There's a bug that checks the return sector count from all INT 13h reads to be 0. Any nonzero value will result in a "disk error!" popup. This is exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) like the problem found in Crypto Cube. INT 13h was changed after the launch of the IBM PC to return the sector count successfully read instead of 0, so the game will only ever boot on an original BIOS IBM PC. Whoops! I've verified the patch works in dosbox, played a sample game and everything seemed fine. It is possible that writes to a disk may fail. -hargle * Crush, Crumble and Chomp! [a1] (1983)(Automated Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - non [a1] was taken off an original disk, this version appears to have been loaded into basic and resaved, as well as saved in ASCII format. * Crypto Cube (1983)(DesignWare Inc.) [Educational].img.zip - fixed disk image. See above notes for Creature Creator. * Defender [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - year and publisher hacked. * Dig Dug r7 [DC][a1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Single byte different in a sea of 00's. Likely corruption and should be removed. * Dig Dug r7 [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - copyright messages removed, other text changed. * Digger [DC] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - fresh conversion from Akuma in 2020: Taken from copy of original image Removed diskcheck Added load/save highscores to 'DIGGER.HSC' Added exit to dos with F10 Added video init for CGA/EGA/VGA Added color-fix / bonus-mode fix Issues: "moving color-band effect" is only visible in CGA (I cannot fix this) * Digger [DC][h1][tr Es] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - stolen credits, translated to Spanish **DANGEROUS** Highscores written directly to drive 0 with any floppy bound to cga graphics. is a com-file thus should be renamed to .COM pornographic hack title changed to PIJJER overdump * Digger [DC][tr Ru] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - stolen title, credits, translated to Russian has a CASSETTE-HEADER applied to it. levels are changed/hacked cga/ega/vga support, does not require cga and has incorrect colors. bonus-mode is broken has portions of the Dark Avenger virus in it. Moved out of TDC completely. * Digger [DC][a1] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - this one was interesting enough to keep around. **BROKEN** *keep Digger's Loader* **DANGEROUS** Highscores written directly to drive 0 with any floppy exe-conversion contains: Digger's Loader v2.9 (1990)(Lavrentyev Mikel & Petrov Dmitry).zip overdump * Digger (Искатель) [DC][tr Ru] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - replaces the above [tr Ru] version as it is cleaner. * Epidemic! [a1] (1983)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - Appears to be an earlier version of the game- it lacks sound, as noted by examining the basic source code directly. Unfortunately it has been played a few times, so there are misc files (save games, etc) included but I don't dare clean them out for fear of removing something original. * Exterminator, The [a1] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - taken off original disk (although it may have been played). Different sized .com file compared to base. * Friendlyware PC Introductory Set v2.0 [a1] (1983)(FriendlySoft) [Action, Compilation].zip - has slightly different menu, includes hearts.exe * Galaxian [DC][h1] (Tandy) (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Tested on PCjr, works, locks on a 286 w/VGA. Might just be a patch, or could be a different version altogether? Hacked with BBS phone#. Game runs with only CGA features on Tandy machines, so the (tandy) tag may be bogus. * Hangman v4.1 [a1][SW] (1983)(Norland Software) [Strategy, Puzzle].zip - different title screen text. Not hacked, just different. * In Search of the Most Amazing Thing [a1] (1983)(Spinnaker Software Corporation) [Adventure].zip - differences in .bas files. Not clearly understood what is different. * Infidel r22 (1983)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - interpreter M2 * Infidel r22 [a1] (1983)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different file structure * Infidel r22 [a2] (1983)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - interpreter L * J-Bird [DC][a1] (1983)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - slight tweak to .exe header. * Joust [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - cracked by mr cooldude graffiti. * Ken Uston's Professional Blackjack v1.20 [a1] (1983)(Intelligent Statements, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards].zip - Different build but same v1.20 the following changes to BJ.COM and M.COM: Load files from the current drive/directory instead of drive A. Clear out the "relative record" field of the File Control Blocks to make the game work on DOS versions 3.0 and above. Replace the read attempt of cylinder 39 with STC, NOP (copy protection). Replace the illegal file date 1980-00-00 of "D" with 1980-01-01, otherwise some programs will just display the current date * Lode Runner [a1] (1983)(Broderbund) [Action].zip - overdump compared to non a1, LR.dat is very different though * Lode Runner [h1] (1983)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - new set of files, graffiti title screen * Lode Runner v3.0 [DC][f1] (1983)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - speed fixed/patched * Lode Runner v3.0 [DC][a1] (1983)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - differently patched version, likely not the same source as the [f1] * Math Blaster [b1] (1983)(Davidson & Associates) [Educational].zip - best dump known. Has file load errors on both dosbox and real dos v3.30. May need even older DOS to run properly? proper copy found! * Maxit (1983)(IBM) [Strategy].zip - has a comment that says "4/83 EXIT MODS ADDED BY JOHN COX, CHICAGO" even though title screen says 1982. In a perfect world, we'd have this one labeled as [f1] and the original without any tags. * Math Maze (1983)(D. C. Heath and Company, DesignWare, Inc.) [Educational].img.zip - cracked disk image. Original disk is 1 sided, 8SPT. Has a minor disk protection. Early in the boot sector it attempts to read 1 sector from track 0xC. If you're good at hex, that's sector 12, which doesn't exist on a 360/180 disk. On the original disk, it is there, and there is data on it. The game then jumps to that data. I moved the data into sector 2, which was previously unused. This also required a minor patch to the boot sector code, since the reading from sector 12 was hard coded. The game should boot but it appears to require pc/xt keyboard routines, so it won't go very far past the title screen on anything better than an 8088. -hargle * Mine Shaft [DC][a1] (1983)(IBM) [Action].zip - a previous version of demonlord's conversion which does not have alt-x to exit to DOS * Mite [Mycroft Labs][1983][rip][2.81].rar is not a game. It's some kind of modem emulation/transfer software. * Moon Bugs [a4][DC] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - yet another crack, possibly underdump * Moon Patrol [h1][a1][DC] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - slightly different bytes than other [h1] version * Night Stalker [DC][a1] (1983)(Mattel Electronics) [Action].zip - same game, different conversion. Appears to have plenty of garbage data embedded in the file. * Othello [f1] (1983)(Bennett Todd) [Strategy].zip - the fix (FIXINPUT.COM, thanks ripsaw8080) is only needed for DOSBox. * Pac-Man [DC][a2] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - completely new dump * Pac-Man [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Phone number added to title screen * Pac-Man [DC][h2] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - hacked credits to SabaSoft * Packman [a1] (1983)(G. E. Leikam) [Action].zip - different intro, plays a different opening tune. This is a compiled basic game, so the file date of 1985 might be correct, plus it's possible that GE leikam didn't write it originally? * Packman [h1] (1983)(G. E. Leikam) [Action].zip - hacked to be so The humble guys gets a cracking credit. released by TDT though, so it's a joke. * Packman [h2] (1983)(G. E. Leikam) [Action].zip - Renamed to "Munch!" and supposedly released by Cosmi in 10 Ten Solid Gold compilation. * Pango [a1] (1983)(Sheng-Chung Liu) [Action].zip - just a smattering of byte changes; could be corrupt? * Pango [h2] (1983)(Sheng-Chung Liu) [Action].zip - credits hacked * Pango [h3] (1983)(Sheng-Chung Liu) [Action].zip - credits hacked * Pango [h4] (1983)(Sheng-Chung Liu) [Action].zip - credits hacked * Robotron- 2084 [DC][h4] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Renamed to Sanction and credited to Cosmi * Rogue v.1b [h1] (1983)(Artificial Intelligence Design) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - This is exactly the same as Rogue .1b but with a stupid hack, names were changed to "Faris" * Rogue v.1b [h2] (1983)(Artificial Intelligence Design) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - This is a modified version of Rogue .1b, as the hacked "Faris" version (above), but this one also have modified monsters attributes, for example where in original it cames 1d4, now it says 1d0. This means rolling dices for player are easier now. The rest is the same game. * Rogue v.1b [h3] (1983)(Artificial Intelligence Design) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - another in the line of Faris hacks. Rogue (1983)(Artificial Intelligence Design) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - This seems to be a cracked version of Rogue 1.0 by Artificial Design, PC port by John Lane. Exe differences are patches done to force values, and modified program execution flow to forced offsets, typical for a crack used to remove protection. For references, these are differences between files: Second bytes are from cracked versions and first one from "original"? ([a2]) 1148 serial numbered.

* Rogue [a1] (1983)(Artificial Intelligence Design) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - This seems to be a Rogue 1.0, but exe sizes are different, and this version exits badly in DosBox. No idea what diskplug is for, or if it is original to the disk (doubt it). * Rogue [a2] (1983)(Artificial Intelligence Design) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - supposedly an uncracked version (see above), but still plays fine. * Sargon III [a1] (1983)(Hayden Software) [Strategy].zip - Listed as non-working in most torrents. It actually does work on a true DOS machine, although the other version is way friendlier. * Sea Dragon [h1][a1] (1983)(Adventure International) [Action].zip - hacked credits, different .exe structure too. * SNAKE! [a1] (1983)(John Chenault) [Action].zip - has original int 13 calls. technically, other version is then [f1] * Songwriter (1983)(Scarborough Systems, Inc.) [Educational].zip - Cracked so that it runs from a floppy disk in drive A:, but unsuccessful in getting it to run from a hard drive. This is the Thunder Mountain re-release; the original release has a slightly different .com/.exe layout. * Space Commanders [h1] (1983)(Columbia Data Products, Inc.) [Action].zip - graffiti hacked credits * Space Commanders [h2] (1983)(Columbia Data Products, Inc.) [Action].zip - VileR's 2020 release of "Space Covidders". This is way more than a hex editing hack and you must check it out. * Stargate [DC][h3] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - appears that [h1] and [h2] versions may be short some code+data. this one has it, but is still hacked. * Stargate [DC][h4] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - missing credits text * Starmaxx [h1] (1983)(Heigen Corporation) [Action].zip - graffiti by Italsoft * Starmaxx [h2] (1983)(Heigen Corporation) [Action].zip - yet another graffiti hack by italsoft * Star Trek (1983)(Anonymous) [Strategy].zip - Appears to be simply a compiled version of the basic source from "Star Trek (1981)(Bob Fritz) [Strategy].zip" * Stock Market, The [SW][b1] (1983)(Dynacomp Inc.) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - crashes out after main menu. Appears incomplete. Best dump known. * Tapper [DC][ax] (1983)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - Multiple version of roughly the same poorly converted game. These may actually all be tagged as [bad] since they all seem to be based on the RGBI diskette side only; the Composite side of the original disk does not seem to be supported. * Tapper [DC] (1983)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - If you supply c (for composite) or r (for RGBI) without dashes or slashes as a command line argument, that mode gets chosen; otherwise it will present a test screen allowing the user to select what he needs. (This should prevent clueless YouTube video makers from running the Composite version on an emulated VGA/EGA). On the PCjr, RGB mode is chosen without presenting the test screen, because the Composite version seems to produce pure nonsense. I have made one further change: TI 3-voice sound is always selectable (X in the main menu) even when not running on a PCjr, for Tandy 1000s or under DOSBox with machine=cga and tandy=on. * Ultima II- Revenge of the Enchantress (1983)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - PC version. Since the space disk has many files with the same name, it has it's own folder. It'll be cumbersome to run this under DOSBox in this format, but the game is here for tracking purposes. The 1989 re-release fixes the dupe filename issues and may be a better play overall. * Werewolves and Wanderers (1983)(Tim Hartnell) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - See note for Aftermath... at top of section ==1984== * Agent U.S.A. [DC] (1984)(Scholastic Wizware) [Adventure, Educational, Strategy].zip - In PCjr mode in DOSbox, use control - 1 to select F1 on the menu. * Alley Cat [DC][h4] (1984)(IBM) [Action].zip - yet another "cracked by mr. coolduude" variant * Amazon [b1] (1984)(Trillium Corp.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - Broken in a couple of ways: 1) You can't proceed past the point where you input the Emergency Code into the computer because the code isn't recognized. 2) You can't save and restore the game. Use the non [b1] copy in TDC instead. Kept here only for identification purposes. * Archon- The Light and the Dark [DC][h1] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Strategy] - credits hacked to say "the duplicators" * Archon- The Light and the Dark [h4][DC] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Strategy].zip - graffiti "cracked by" * BC's Quest for Tires [DC] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action].zip - DOS conversion by NewRisingSun. Joystick required. * Beast [a1][SW] (1984)(Dan Baker) [Action, Strategy].zip - game appears to append high score inside main executable, so play it and change CRCs. argh. - no additional copies of Beast, unless we can find a virgin copy, will be accpeted because of this. * Below the Root [DC] (1984)(Windham Classics) [Adventure].zip - Small bug in loader.com apparently causes some keyboards (particularly a 5155) to not operate correctly. The raw booter image will work properly. * Bricks [a1] (1984)(Vince Bly) [Action].zip - single byte change near end of file. ugh. no actual difference in execution. * Bowling Champ!! (1984)(Compute! Publications, Inc.) [Action, Sports].zip - Year/publisher source: appeared in Compute!'s PC/PCjr magazine, 8/84 (vol.1 #6). See- http://cd.textfiles.com/pcsig08/501_600/DISK0547/CPUT84.DTA * Buck Rogers- Planet of Zoom [DC][a3] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - same as [a1] with a different chunk of data (non code). [a1] may be corrupt. * Buck Rogers- Planet of Zoom [tr Es] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - hack translation of this version: Buck Rogers- Planet of Zoom [DC][a1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip * Buck Rogers- Planet of Zoom [DC][f1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - includes a custom slowdown and dump tool from 2009. main zoom.com files is slightly different than base (2 bytes). * Bugs! v4 [h1] (1983)(Michael Ouye) [Action].zip - hacked credits. * Castle Adventure (1984)(Kevin Bales) [Action, Adventure].zip - Has no intro screen from "FREEWARE GAMES" and the tile screen has a border around the title itself with author credit. No mention of shareware so, so no [SW] tag. Not sure if this is an earlier or later release. One would think the title screen on this version is from a later release, but we don't know. castle.ran has been played and the high score stored within is set quite high, where I believe the release in unplayed form has a high score of "Bob" with a score of 100. This is at least the lowest score I can find in all the variations, and the timestamp matches the .exe timestamp. since the game is predominately 2 files, and castle.ran changes everytime it is played, this game has many variations. * Castle Adventure [h1] (1984)(Kevin Bales) [Action, Adventure].zip - hacked credits and opening info, although author's name unchanged. * Championship Lode Runner [DC] (1984)(Brøderbund Software, Inc.) [Action, Strategy].img.zip - the byte at 0x22a78 changed every time the game is played, resulting in every copy of the .IMG file having a different CRC. * Castle Wolfenstein (1984)(Muse Software) [Action, Adventure, Strategy].zip - This game requires DOS 2.1 or earlier. * Dragonworld [b1] (1984)(Telarium Corp.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - has a save/restore issue. After restoring the game seems to lose track of the interpreter - best known dump of this version. The [a1] has all that fixed up. * Dragonworld [f1][a1] (1984)(Telarium Corp.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - A different (earlier?) release. fixes: - disabled copy protection - disabled multiple disk checks for gameplay - added: "escape key" exits save game screen, without need to save - added: "escape key" exits restore game screen, without need to restore - added: automatically creates savegame list in game folder, if absent original .exe file is available as DGW.EX_ the "VOLT" file on both disks is for disk identification, renamed the one from DISKB to "VOLT.B" * Early Games for Young Children v4.0 [a1] (1984)(Springboard Software, Inc.) * Flightmare [SW][a1] (1984)(Peter Adams) [Action].zip - completely different executable. * Flightmare [SW][a2] (1984)(Peter Adams) [Action].zip - Appears to be a non (or less) corrupt version of [b1]. * Flightmare [h1] (1984)(Peter Adams) [Action].zip - hacked to give credit to keypunch. this is a new low! * Frogger II- Three Deep [DC][h1][b1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - Software Pirates version that exits at the second game screen in Composite mode with a "SPI files missing 4 sector(s)" message. * Frogger II- Three Deep [DC][a1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - patch by Mok that uses 286 instructions and does not fully remove the keydisk check --- it still tries to access the floppy drive by directly writing to the floppy controller. * Frogger II- Three Deep [DC][a2] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - newly discovered yet very early alternate DOS Conversion. * Games People Play (1984)(Anonymous) [Compilation].zip - Unsure who published this, although at least 2 titles seem to reference PC Magazine, so it may have been distributed by them. Otherwise has lots of original sources for many games with correct timestamps. * GATO [f1] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - This is likely v1.0. It has typos in history and demo.exe that are fixed in v1.1. Does not have a message "are you sure you want to exit" after pressing ESC during gameplay which the v1.1 has. Has a french quick docs which may or may not be original (probably not). Unknown provenance. Fixed by renaming and hex editing files by replacing the spaces with XX, but original exe files are not available. end of gato1.exe has the word "POUET" which might be like those "MsDoS" appendages for virus scanning. * GATO v1.1 [f1] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - Taken off an original disk, but probably heavily played. the version # is only available on the disk label. fixed because dosbox cannot open filenames with spaces in them, so they were all renamed and the .exe files that referenced them also modified. for the record, winimage also has a problem with filenames with spaces so if you have an .IMA file and try to extract the files, you'll just end up with a big ole unplayable mess. Copy protection removed by akuma too. * GATO v1.2 [f1][b1] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - Taken off original disk, same details as above. demo.exe is missing, may have been deleted at some point, possibly to make room for DOS files to make the disk bootable. Best known dump * GATO v1.4 [f1] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - Taken off original disk, same details as above. gato1.exe looks like the file is overdumped. * Gremlins [DC][h3] (1984)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - same as [h2] (cracked by mr cooldude in options screen) but different filesets. weird. * Gremlins [DC] (1984)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Fresh booter taken off official release. * Gremlins [DC][a1] (1984)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Fixed/cleaned up version of some of the oddball [h] variants. The title screen is different. * Grime [FW][f1] (1984)(Damar, Mark Elendt) [Action].zip - technically hacked, but it's invisible. "Highscore problem fixed by Demonlord" * Grime [FW][f1] (1984)(Damar, Mark Elendt) [Action].zip - technically hacked, but it's invisible. "Highscore problem fixed by Demonlord" * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h1][tr Sp] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to The Duplicators, otherwise identical to root. * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h2][a1] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to The Duplicators, this time a different exe * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h2][o1] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to The Duplicators and overdumped. Two bytes also different. * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h3] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to Italsoft * Hopper [a1] (1984)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - Bypasses speed/skill selection screen. * Hopper [a2] (1984)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - renamed as Ribit.exe, does not allow for Joystick * Hulk, The [f1] (1984)(Load'N'Go Software) [Adventure] - no idea what the patch is/does. Not sure if unpatched is original. type "mode co40" before playing to see the pictures. * Icon- The Quest for the Ring (1984)(Macrocom) [Adventure, Role Playing (RPG)] - game requires true CGA to run properly. * In The Chips [DC] (1984)(Creative Software) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - likes a joystick, but can also be played with arrow keys+ins/del as buttons. * Janitor Joe [a2] (1984)(Kevin Bales) [Action].zip - typo fixed, from "veiw" to "view" that's it! * Janitor Joe [a4] (1984)(Kevin Bales) [Action].zip - Different build with some additional docs. Apparently there is a bug in games called "jumpjoe.exe" which is why some of these are "jumpjoe2.exe", released when the bug was fixed. Should probably re-work this set of games. * Jungle Hunt [DC][h1] (1984)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - graffitied executable and loader used to launch game * Juno First [DC] (1984)(Datasoft, Inc.)[Action].zip - DOS Conversion by NewRisingSun. When adjusting joystick trims, one needs to keep in mind that the ship is supposed to drift downwards, judging by the arcade version emulated in MAME. The game's graphics seem to be drawn for a composite color display. * Kangaroo (1984)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - Has real(?) timestamp of 1984, but otherwise different .exe than the versions in 198x folder. * King's Quest [DC] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - newRisingSun's version which removed protection appendage from MAIN.EXE. works perfectly. * King's Quest [DC][a1] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - ripsaw8008's version, works perfectly. * King's Quest [DC][a2] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Demonlord's stab #3, which now fixed the restart problem. We think this one works perfectly. * King's Quest [DC][a3] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Prior to Jan 2017, this was the main version in TDC. Provenance unknown anymore so it got moved to the bottom of the list. * King's Quest [DC][a4] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - this is an earlier (may 1984) with BOOT v1.1. All other versions of KQ1 for the PC are BOOT v1.2 This version does not have "Chris Iden" in the opening credits. * King's Quest [DC][b1] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Demonlord's 07/12/98 save/restore bug fix. Has magic bean text bug. * King's Quest [DC][b2] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Demonlord's 2006 fix which fixed the magic bean text problem. * Klondyke Solitaire [a1] (1984)(Jeff Littlefield) [Strategy, Cards].zip - original, non modified/updated version. probably from 1983, but the timestamp is 1980 * Klondike Solitaire v1.2 [a1] (1984)(Mouse Systems Corp.) [Strategy, Cards].zip - taken off an original disk- files is a different compile than the non [a1] * Learning with Leeper [DC][f1] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Educational].zip - Start with MAIN.EXE. FILEGAME.BAT is not a DOS batch file, but some kind of script file that nonetheless is named exactly that. Tested to run in DOSBox (cycles=320 and 500) and 86Box provided that a joystick is emulated. Notes: The game must be played with a joystick, and the joystick must be connected right from the start. (Background: Otherwise the game will cause a Divide Error. In the DOS conversion, DOS' default Int00 handler displays "Divide Error" and exits. The message is not readable because of the way the game sets up the video mode. The booter will instead execute the BIOS' default Int00 handler, which is just an IRET. With a 8088 CPU, that means that the game will just continue with no input at all, because the 8088 CPU will return to the instruction after the offending DIV instruction. With a 80286+ CPU, that means the game will freeze, as the 80286+ CPU will return to the offending DIV instruction itself. I did not patch any of this because you would not be able to play the game without a joystick anyway.) On DOSBox, as soon as the game lets you control the character, it will drift in one direction until you hit all four directions, which causes the game to self-calibrate. Failure to hit all four directions as early as the first screen means that the game might automatically choose the one of the mini-games. I took the liberty to patch the bad keyboard handler so that the game can at least be run on a PCjr. As mentioned before, absolutely no Tandy 1000 or IBM PCjr enhancements. Only run this game as CGA with composite color monitor, not Tandy 1000, not PCjr. The game's Paint mini-game is pretty much pointless without the fifteen colors of composite, and the composite colors are wrong on Tandy 1000 (frog/grass is blue, water is pink), even as the game was sold through Radio Shack! * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b1] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - Adds an exit to DOS option, which is not original. This is technically a hack! Missing PCjr version. * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b2][h1] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - credits hacked to Software Pirates, Inc. Missing PCjr version. * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b3][h2] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - credits hacked to Italsoft. Missing PCjr version. * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b4][h3][o1] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - (C) date changed to 1992, appears to have a complete 2nd program tacked onto the end of the file. Missing PCjr version. * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b5] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - this one is interesting as it is 1/2 the size as the others, which may mean it is even more bad than the others. Either way, it is missing the PCjr version, so it too is bad. * Notable Phantom [b1] (1984)(DesignWare) [Educational] - missing half of the program. game.exe is 0 bytes. Compose.exe works. Labeled as [bad] until a better version surfaces. * MYCHESS [b1] (1984)(Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Strategy, Chess].zip - Missing config program, which allows for display and computer type setup. Best dump known. * MYCHESS v1.2 [b1] (1984)(Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Strategy, Chess].zip - Missing config program, which allows for display and computer type setup. Best dump known. * Pac-Man (Fr) [a1] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip - has two bytes NOPed out compared to other version. Not sure why. * Pac-Man [tr En] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip - modifications (translations only?) by Eugeen G., Balkhash 1994. Not sure how/where to place this one- it's a hacked copy with title screen changed, but is it just a hack or an [f1] and does it go in 1994 instead? * PC Pool Challenges (CGA only) [DC] (1984)(IBM) [Simulation] - Like the title says, don't try this one on anything other than a true CGA machine. The other one works on any video system. * PC Pool v0.10 [a5] (1984)(Dale Jurich) [Simulation, Sports].zip - yes, 5 versions discovered so far. This is the smallest filesize found yet- perhaps the others are overdumps? * President's Choice [DC] (1984)(Spinnaker Software Corporation) [Simulation, Strategy].img.zip - To get the game working in DOSBox you need to set machine=cga in the settings and run the PCFIX.COM program before booting with the command: BOOT PCHOICE1.IMG PCHOICE2.IMG * Quink (1984)(CBS Software) [Educational, Trivia] - crack:

* Ribit (1984)(Ddf) [Action].zip - interesting. technically the same game as hopper (198x), but has different intro and clearly says '84 Ddf in the executable. Also interesting that it would normally be spelled "ribbit" * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][a1] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - someone hacked out all support for the savegame file? (or it was added in for a later version) * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][h1] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - Appended message "broken by Koyote Kid" * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][h1][a1] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - Appended message "broken by Koyote Kid", different (corrupt?) data inside too. * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][a2] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - Different than all other .exes, kinda overdumped too. * Shamus [DC][a1] (1984)(IBM) [Action, Adventure].zip - uses .ovl and loader method * Shamus [DC][h1] (1984)(IBM) [Action, Adventure].zip - hacked credits to st. nick * Sierra Championship Boxing (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Sports] - Different title screen (no credits) and very DOS like, not ripped off booter. * Sierra Championship Boxing [DC][a1] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Sports].zip - likely just savegame differences, but hard to say. * Skiing [o1] (1984)(Rick Dean) [Action].zip - overdump, very incorrect timestamp * Skiing [o2] (1984)(Rick Dean) [Action].zip - overdump, timestamp is 1985 which is interesting but we think 1984 is the true 1st release date. * Smashout (1984)(Tim McClarren) [Action].zip - Requires mono, won't run with CGA or higher * Soko-Ban [ax] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - [a1],[A2],[a3] - different .exes, cracks, fixes. seems like non [a] is closest to original, has some INT 13h calls intact. Also seems that the game updates level data files directly, so nearly every copy we get is different. * Soko-Ban [a4] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - same as [a3], but exe modified by "MsDoS" anti-virus scanner. * Sopwith [h1] (1984)(BMB Compuscience) [Action] - AKA the red baron * Sopwith [h2] (1984)(BMB Compuscience) [Action].zip - one more red baron hack * Stargate [DC][h4] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Public domain by atari. * Stargate [DC][h5] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - modified instructions for left/right/stop. Public domain by atari. * Switch the Railroad (1984)(Chris Torkildson) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - Author info comes from the original Commodore PET game. See- http://jimgerrie.blogspot.com/2014/12/retrochallenge-201501-rail-switch.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9V3N2KJP6k * Typing Tutor III (PCjr) (1984)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Educational][!].zip - not sure how this one got upgraded to [!] currently. This version loads in 40 column mode and has 2x the menus whenever the screen is too busy to support all the text from 80 columns. * Typing Tutor III [a1] (1984)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Educational].zip - modified tt.com, appears to be a different build. May be bad: only shows 1/4 of the text on some tests compared to base version. Somewhere a copy that was tagged as v1.5 and [!] arrived which exactly matches this copy. Unknown how the [!] or even the version # was derived though, so we're leaving it as [a1]. It appears HISTFILE.001 is generated by the program. It records usernames and may be deleted. * Typing Tutor III [a2] (1984)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Educational] - see [a1] * Ultima III- Exodus (1984)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - First release off floppy, from a blue+white "flippy" diskette. * Xonix [h1] (1984)(Ilan Rav) [Action].zip - hacked to rename title to "Lokup"- removed credits from title screen. * Zaxxon [DC][b1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises, Inc.) [Action].zip - hacked to say "Public Domain By: Sega" * Zaxxon (PCjr) [DC][b8][h1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises, Inc.) [Action].zip - On a PCjr in DOSBox it at least gets to the 1/2 player option but won't go past it. Just use the non-[b] tagged version for all your Zaxxon needs. * Zyll [DC][b1] (1984)(IBM) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - A two paragraph header was prepended for no apparent reason, and aside from that the first word of every 4K (1000h) bytes is corrupt. Though the game does start up okay, it will mess up at various points during gameplay where the corrupt parts are used. better dumps exist in TDC. Here for tracking purposes only. * Zyll [DC][a1] (1984)(IBM) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - modified to implement quitting to DOS as well as a DOS-based method of saving/restoring game position instead of the original floppy-based method. ==1985== * A Mind Forever Voyaging r77 [a1] (1985)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - may actually be [o1], data at end of .dat file, but it may be legit. * Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension, The v3.87 (1985)(Adventure International) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction] - crack:

* Asylum [f1] (1985)(Screenplay) [Adventure].zip - cracked as well as patched to not require running from the A: drive plus fixed for graphical glitches that appeared during gameplay --changed the initial stack pointer. * Balance Of Power [f1] (1985)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Strategy] - Original disks used and patched to allow HD installs to work. Yes, the game starts up windows 1.0, but come on, it's certainly more DOS than windows. ;) Also fixed added the Win2 mouse driver with the old bus/serial mouse driver renamed as MOUSE.DR_. With this the installer will produce a PS/2 interface supporting Win 1.0 executable. * Balance Of Power [a1] (1985)(Mindscape Inc).zip - different crack, missing all the windows drivers. [f1] version is from original disks, use it instead. * Balance Of Power [a2] (1985)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - Installed version; This one is enhanced EGA with the mouse support from [f1]. * Cavequest v1.1 [SW][a1] (1985)(Lightwave Consultants) [Action, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - same executable, but additional quest files. registered maybe? appears to have been released later. * Caverns of Gink [a1] (1985)(Tony Ginko) [Action].zip - .COM version. * Chess v1.01 (De) [h1] (1985)(Psion) [Strategy, Chess].zip - hacked credits * Chess v2.13 (En)(Fr)(De) (1985)(Psion) [Strategy, Chess][!].zip - Change languages by pressing F4. The game default language is then written directly into chess.exe at offset 0x1a. Tagged as known good dump because the copy available on the net matched a copy that had been written to a floppy disk in ~1987 and stored in a private collection since. * Crimson Crown, The [a1] (1985)(Polarware - Penguin Software, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - uses subst for direct a: access, instead of using patched .exe like non [a1] * Dam Busters, The [a1] (1985)(Accolade, Inc.) [Action, Simulation, Strategy].zip (and [a2]) different cracks. * Decision in the Desert v419.00 [DC][h1] (1985)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - Cracktro loader. * Disk Crash [b1][SW] (Gary Quiring)(1985) [Action] - Appears to be CGA only, but couldn't get anything more than a blank screen out of it on an 8088. Other machines show garbled graphics. Author is active on the net, maybe we can get the source/info. * Fire Fighter [SW] (1985)(Eben Sprinsock) [Strategy].zip / Fire Fighter [SW][a1] (1985)(Eben Sprinsock) [Strategy].zip Some virus scanners will detect the [a1] version as Joke/Water. There is a really unusual thing going on here. fire.com is identical to fire.com[a1] except that fire.com is *longer* (overdumped) than [a1]. The [a1] version gets detected as having the "virus" but the non [a1] does not. How is it possible that "file+junk" is ok, yet "file" is a virus? Either way, this program is most certainly not "water/joke" http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100757.htm * Ghostbusters (PCjr, Tandy 1000) [h1][b1] (1985)(Activision, Inc.) [Action].img.zip - Disk image that will never be converted to DOS (hence no DC) but interesting to include in TDC because this version has been hacked to support CGA modes so it will run on a stock PC. Tagged as bad since it is no longer a PCjr/tandy version of the game- It was only ever released for jr/tandy. There is a fantastic dos conversion that actually works on PCjr/tandy now, thanks to NewRisingSun. * Golden Oldies Volume 1- Computer Software Classics [h1] (1985)(Electronic Arts, Inc., Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Compilation].zip - hacked title screen to change credits from Software Toolworks to Computer Country. * James Bond 007- A View to a Kill [a1] (1985)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different crack. * Jet [DC][b1] (1985)(subLOGIC) [Simulation].zip - 386 instructions used for the loader, so it won't work on a proper machine. doesn't ask monitor type. Better dump available. * Killer Bees (1985)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - single byte difference between this and the [a1]. [a1] has a timestamp of 2005 so we like this copy better. * King's Quest II- Romancing the Throne v1.0w [DC][b1] (1985)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - works in DOSBox but not on a real PC(PCjr) Better dump available. * King's Quest II- Romancing the Throne v1.1h [DC][b1] (1985)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - works in DOSBox but not on a real PC(PCjr) Better dump available. * M.U.L.E. [DC] (1985)(IBM) [Action, Strategy].zip - DOS coversion by NewRisingSun, has full save/restore support. * Maxgame [a1] (1985)(Max Acid) [Action].zip - different .exe file- not sure what actually changed though. * Pinball Construction Set [DC][b1] (1985)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - fails to work in DOSBox and real 8088/CGA machine. * Pure-Stat Baseball (1985)(Software Simulations, Inc.) [Sports, Simulation].zip - team disk has duplicate filenames, so the disks cannot be merged. You may be better off mounting the two .IMG files (located in a separate archive) as 2 drives. * Questprobe- Featuring Human Torch and the Thing v1.72 [f1] (1985)(Adventure International) [Adventure].zip - The game uses a very old dos call (int 21 func. 0f) to open a datafile called SPL53P.DAT, but it tries to read in a filename called "SPL???.DAT" This patch changed fantfour.exe file and changed the "???" to "53P" so the filename is correct since there is only SPL file. * Questprobe- Featuring Human Torch and the Thing v1.72 [h1] (1985)(Adventure International) [Adventure].zip - hacked credits, different crack * Robotron- 2084 [DC][h1] (1985)(Atarisoft) [Action] hacked date and title to "illinois pirates league" nice. * Rogue- The Adventure Game v1.49 [a1] (1985)(Epyx, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - Non a1 has some 1995 based things. This one is taken off a (unfortunately used) original disk * Sea Speller [f1][DC] (1985)(Fisher-Price) [Educational].zip - [f1] because it relies on a behavior (probably specific to CGA) of the video status register that no emulator (PCE, PCEm, or DOSBox) supports, causing the game to hang. I modified it to specifically test the retrace bit instead of ALL bits of the register, so now the game will work on emulators as well as all kinds of real video cards. * Sierra Championship Boxing [DC] (1985)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Sports] - Different than the release in 1984 (at least the title screen says 1985!) * Silly Master Blaster (Pinball Construction Set) [a2] (1985)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - compressed. Likely no different than other versions. * Solitare [a1] (1985)(Bill Franklin) [Strategy].zip - Compressed with LZ91. Likely no different than non a1 * Spacewar v1.50 [SW][o1] (1985)(Bill Seiler) [Action].zip - cga only version, overdump, missing docs, yuck * Space Commanders II [h1] (1985)(ajf) [Action].zip - Title hacked to be "<<>>" * Spider-Man v2.6 [f1][a1] (1985)(Load'N'Go Software) [Adventure] - has slightly different text in the .dat file. Added mention of a clue book. - fix:

* Star Fleet I- The War Begins v2.0 [a1] (1985)(Cygnus Multimedia, Interstel) [Strategy].zip - Slightly different set of .exes. SFI.EXE has an embedded build date of April 5th 1985 as compared to January 12th 85, and I don't think that was hacked. * Star Trek- The Kobayashi Alternative [a1] (1985)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different crack, possibly uncracked? will someday merge * Striker v1.2 [SW] (1985)(Derek Williams) [Action].zip - this zip was converted from an old .arc file taken off a 30 year old floppy. It appears to have a virgin/original highscore file and a read.me that hasn't managed to stay connected with the other copies of this game floating around. All other copies should probably just go away. * Striker v1.2 [SW][a2] (1985)(Derek Williams) [Action].zip - couple single byte changes to the .exe * Strip Poker- A Sizzling Game of Chance [a1][b1] (1985)(Artworx Software Co, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards, Adult].zip - missing some data files, but main .exe is completely different from non [a1] version. No version # found, but certainly a different revision. * Strip Poker- A Sizzling Game of Chance [a2] (1985)(Artworx Software Co, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards, Adult].zip - new 8 bit boobs! * Strip Poker- A Sizzling Game of Chance [a3] (1985)(Artworx Software Co, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards, Adult].zip - includes basic source code. * Styx [h1][DC] (1985)(Windmill Software) [Action] says "Copyright(C) 1985 KP Graph Software Inc." * Telengard v5.03 [h1] (1985)(Avalon Hill) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - oddly hacked to change the word "snarf" to "sieze". No other changes. * Tennis [a1] (F) (1985) (Fil And Dl Research) [Sports] - Same as Imagic Tennis without the Imagic Logo. Perhaps a prototype? * Tycoon- The Commodity Market Simulation v2.3 (1985)(Blue Chip Software, Inc.) [Strategy, Simulation] - crack/drive A: check:

* Ultima III- Exodus [a1] (1985)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - March 8th, 1985 version. See NewRisingSun's Ultima III changelog for details. * Wizard of Oz, The [a1] (1985)(Telarium) [Adventure].zip - different crack style. We already have an uncracked version, so this isn't important. * Wizard's Crown [a1] (1985)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - different crack. * Wizzardz & War Lordz [f1] (1985)(Ram-Tek Co.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - GAME.EXE renames MONSTER.DAT to PROGRAM.EXE, reads program.exe, then tries to rename PROGRAM.EXE back to MONSTER.DAT, but this fails on the side of the host operating system, because the file is still "open" both within the emulator and to the host operating system, and therefore locked from the reading procedure! This fix removes that whole file renaming nonsense in favor of keeping the program filename constantly as PROGRAM.EXE, and properly closes PROGRAM.EXE after reading. * World's Greatest Baseball Game, The [DC][b1] (1985)(Epyx, Inc.) [Sports].zip - Works, but uses 386 opcodes, so the game will crash on anything less. A better copy exists in TDC now. ==1986== * Action Arcade v1.1 (1986)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Compilation].zip - got renamed to Arcade Bonanza (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Compilation].zip because that's the way the box cover and disk image are produced. (see mobygames entry) While we believe this game is actually Action Arcade v1.1, we can't argue with this publisher re-publishing some previously published shovelware. * African Desert Campaign v1.5B [a1] (1986)(Matt Kaufman) [Strategy, War].zip - massively different .exe structure * America's Cup Yacht Racing Simulator [a1] (1986)(Geoff. Brayford & Associates Pty. Ltd.) [Simulation].zip - Fixed version of the [a1]- no typos! * America's Cup Yacht Racing Simulator [a2] (1986)(Geoff. Brayford & Associates Pty. Ltd.) [Simulation].zip - Has typos such as "bouy" instead of "buoy". The two [a] versions have larger amcup.exe than the non [a]. * Arcade II v1.3 [a1] (1986)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Arcade, Compilation].zip - has a later copy of keypunch.doc, no other changes. This shows how anal we are with TDC. * Arcticfox [h1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Simulation] - says "CRACKED BY =NINJA=" on title screen. * Arcticfox [h2][b1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Simulation].zip - different graffiti and incomplete! yay! * Arcticfox [h3][b1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Simulation].zip - graffiti for donating to the american cancer society in place of credits. Also missing EGA version as above * Battle Ground [SW][a1] (1986)(MVP Software) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - massively different .exe structure * Beyond the Titanic [SW][a1] (1986)(Apogee Software Productions, Apogee Software, Ltd.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - re-release for the Apogee collection CD. Same game, but different notes included. Could be moved to the year that it was re-released I suppose? * Bop'N Wrestle [a3] (1986)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Sports].zip - different crack, fixed to A: drive * Chinese Chess (1986)(Anonymous) [Strategy].zip - a version of Chinese Chess (1985)(Anonymous) [Strategy].zip. In the 1985 version, read.me and cchess.doc are dated 1987, but they have been added later as whoever wrote them says he was unable to identify the author of the game. * Computer Scrabble (1986)(Leisure Genius) [Strategy] - Micro Scrabble (French) - Straying heavily from mobygames naming and release date here. Box cover actually says 1989, title screen says 1986. * Cyrus II Chess (1986)(Intelligent Chess Software) [Strategy, Chess].zip - This is a later release with support for Amstrad * Deep Space- Operation Copernicus (1986)(Sir-tech Software, Inc.) [Action, Simulation] - Clearly says 1987 in title screen, but moby has release dates as 1986, and they're from the author himself. Just goes to show you how arbitrary these things are. * Donald Duck's Playground [DC][b1] (1986)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Educational].img.zip - Commonly available version, but doesn't work on a PCjr. Get the non [b1] instead. left here only to alert others there is a problem. * Grand Slam Bridge [h1] (1986)(Cybron Corporation) [Strategy, Cards].zip - graffiti on title screen in the cards. Pretty clever actually. * Haunted Mission Adventure [SW] (1986)(Agency Automation) [Adventure] - also listed in 1987. Not a dupe. Different versions, but no ver# that we can locate. * Karateka [ax] (1986)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action] - Different variations of the crack. I'd always heard it was impossible to beat the last guy if the crack was bad. Hopefully some of these will switch to [bx] in the future. * Karateka [h1] (1986)(Brøderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Italsoft graffiti * King's Quest III- To Heir is Human v1.01 [a1] (1986)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure] - different file structure. * Larn v12.0 [a1] (1986)(Noah Morgan, Don Kneller) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - completely different exe, yet same version #. * Lucky [b1] (1986)(Anonymous) [Adult] - missing instructions-bails with an I/O error.better copy found! With an author's name! * Make Your Own Murder Party [DC] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].img.zip - This is an odd DOS/Direct disk image. It's not bootable, and it *requires* DOS 2.1 in order to operate correctly (which you will need to supply). In DOSBox, boot using a CGA machine with "boot dosimage.img myomp.img" and after DOS has loaded, press ctrl-F4 to swap disks and then run mp * Marble Madness [DC][h1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - PTL club graffiti * Mean 18 [a1] (1986)(Accolade, Inc.) [Sports].zip - has Tandy support! - crack:

[Sports].zip - Combo version with all default course content and GMS as the course selector. The course selector in the original game is otherwise broken. The game is only designed to read three courses at a time * Mean 18 Famous Course Addon Disk IV (1986)(Accolade, Inc.) [Sports].zip - this archive very well may have additional courses from other disks. * Monopoly P.C. [a1] (1986)(Len Sheppard) [Strategy].zip - Different build date (May instead of Jan) and the end text is different- it does not mention a donation/shareware. Looks like Len had a change of heart on trying to get money for the game. * Ninja (1986)(Mastertronic Group Ltd.) [Action].zip - taken from original disk, KFX and IMA files in TDC. DOS 2.1 was added to disk, but files removed here as they are unlikely to be original. * Orbiter [a1] (1986)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Educational, Simulation].zip - This is, it seems, "extended" version of Orbiter - it have tutorial and more missions. * Pawn, The v2.3 [a1] (1986)(Rainbird Software) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - totally different .exe, pawn1 has different checksum. Hacker uncompressed pawn1 + modified exe to handle raw files only * PC-Hack v3.60 [a1] (1986)(Don Kneller) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - totally different build, looks like termcap was modified? * PC Life International Diskmagazine Volume 1 Number 2 (1986)(Microstar Graphics, Ltd.) [Compilation].zip - original disk had the folder "SHOW" with an oddball character at the front "?SHOW" which few DOS tools or archive extracters will handle. This is easily fixed by renaming it "SHOW" and then modifying the batch file that uses it. * Pyramid Power (1986)(COMPUTE! Publications) [Action].zip - .exe is dated 1984, but the source was published in 1986: http://www.atarimagazines.com/compute/issue77/Pyramid_Power_For_The_Amiga.php so what are we to do? * Rain (Pinball Construction Set) [a1] (1986)(Robert G. Hays) [Action].zip - same game as in Pinball Tables (Pinball Construction Set) (1985)(Robert G. Hays) [Action, Compilation].zip (which is why it's a1) but renamed to an .exe file, with slightly different build data. very odd. * Risk (EGA) [SW][a1] (1986)(Russell Fleming) [Strategy].zip - Different documentation file, appears to be later edit. * Round 42 [SW][a1] (1986)(Elven Software Company) [Action].zip - different serial number. yep. that's it. * Round 42 [SW][a2] (1986)(Elven Software Company) [Action].zip - different embedded serial number? * Sleuth v4.1 [SW][a1] (1986)(Norland Software) [Adventure, Strategy].zip - Different build of main program, .com instead of .exe. * Sleuth v4.1 [SW][a2] (1986)(Norland Software) [Adventure, Strategy].zip - This may be the earliest release. Sundries files has multiple typos that are fixed in the [a1] and base versions. * Sopwith 2 [h1] (1986)(BMB Compuscience) [Action].zip - AKA Sokwith 2 * Sopwith 2 [h2] (1986)(BMB Compuscience) [Action].zip - AKA top gun * Sopwith 2 [h3] (1986)(BMB Compuscience) [Action].zip - AKA Blokwit * Space Battles (1986)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Compilation].zip - known as "Space Battels Ver. 1.0" in the version file. * Space Quest- The Sarien Encounter v1.0X (1986)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - AGI 2.089, taken from 720k image. crack notes

* Spacewar v1.71 (1986)(Bill Seiler) [Action].zip - doesn't have the shareware screen or credits on title screen. * Spy's Adventures in Europe, The (1986)(Magic Tree, Ltd.) [Educational].zip - This version may be a demo or beta release as there are no clues, no jewels and no information anywhere. Magic Tree is claimed in the credits, and they were a developer that was used by Penguin/Polarware. * Starflight [a1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - missing all files except core game files, but different versions too. * Starflight [a2] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - patched to not require CGA, documentation is slightly different too. * Starglider [a1] (1986)(Rainbird Software) [Action, Simulation].zip - English only version. Considerably smaller .exe file * Starglider (En)(De) [h1] (1986)(Rainbird Software) [Action, Simulation].zip - hacked title screen by ItalSoft * Subcommander (1986)(Unknown) [Simulation].zip - Looks suspiciously like GATO. May be a pre-release? * Super Boulder Dash [h1][DC] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Compilation].zip - Uses a "cracked by" loader to start the games. * Tag Team Wrestling [DC] (1986)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Action].img.zip - This is kind of a reverse [DC]! It appears that TTW was originally released as an .EXE in 1984 and then re-released in Europe in 1986 as a booter. If you compare the .exe file against the .img file, you'll see the date was changed and credits removed from Quicksilver software, but it's technically not a hack since it was published this way. * Tetris (1986)(A. Pajitnov,V. Gerasimov) [Action, Strategy].zip - Almost the same as Academy Soft version, but without this copyright. Probably, slightly more early version. * Tetris [a1] (1986)(AcademySoft) [Action, Strategy].zip - Additional Academysoft (c) string at start of code, non [a1] might be a hack? * Tetris [a2] (1986)(AcademySoft) [Action, Strategy].zip - video mode message is different. * Tetris [h1] (1986)(AcademySoft) [Action, Strategy].zip - Hacked credits to ItalSoft * Top Gun (1986)(Ocean Software Ltd.) [Action, Simulation].zip - This version supports Amstrad. TOPGUN2.EXE is automatically run when you run TOPGUN.EXE and select "Amstrad 1512". It is a separate executable that provides 16-color rather than 4-color graphics when used on an Amstrad 1512. When running it on a standard CGA, you get monochrome graphics instead * Tune Trivia [SW] (1986)(The Public (Software) Library) [Educational, Trivia].zip - technically overdumped. TUNETRIV.EXE has a series of 0x1a bytes at the end of the file compared to the 1984 release of this program by Signature Software. * Uridium [b1] (1986)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Action].zip - missing logo.dat but also a different .exe too * Wilderness- A Survival Adventure (1986)(Electric Transit, Inc.) [Adventure, Educational].zip - mobygames says 1986, there's a (C) string in wild.exe shows 1984. Game stuck in 1986 for now. No other dates found. * Wordplay v1.01 [a1] (1986)(Jerry Schonewille) [Strategy].zip - appears to be a later release where "Loose" was hacked to correctly spell "Lose" and a couple additional puzzles are provided. * World Tour Golf [h1][b1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Sports].zip - hacked title screen credits (why bad?) * World Tour Golf [h2] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Sports].zip - hacked title screen credits ==1987== * 10th Frame [h1] (1987)(Access Software, Inc.) [Sports].zip - Interesting, the BOWL.DAT file itself is identical to the known good dump version, 10frame.com just loads the .dat file with a loader message. Could very well be deleted since it's just a stupid ad. * 10th Frame [h2] (1987)(Access Software, Inc.) [Sports].zip - hacked credits internally. * 3-D Helicopter Simulator [a1] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Simulation] - different loading mechanism. odd. * 3-D Helicopter Simulator v1.10 [a1] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Simulation] - same as above * 3-D Helicopter Simulator [h1] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Simulation].zip - hacked title credits * 3-D Helicopter Simulator [h2] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Simulation].zip - hacked title credits * Ace of Aces [a1] (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Action, Simulation] - different crack, can likely merge someday * Aldo's Adventure [SW][a1] (1987)(David and Benjamin Ibach) [Action].zip - just a few bytes scattered throughout .exe different. very odd. * Ancient Art of War at Sea, The (1987)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Strategy] - crack:

* Arkanoid (1987)(Imagine Software) [Action].zip - proper crack from NewRisingSun with title screen. * Big Blue Disk #11 (1987)(Softdisk Publishing) [Compilation].zip - patched to allow running from any drive/directory patch: Same patch can be applied to #8,11 at a minimum, but the offset changes.

* Big Blue Disk #14 (1987)(Softdisk Publishing) [Compilation].zip - until the above patch can be applied, when switching disks, simply drag status.dat into a text editor and change the 1 to 2 on line 5 or vice-versa anytime the program asks to switch disks. * Bionic Commando [b1] (1987)(Capcom U.S.A., Ltd.) [Action].zip - missing CGA version. * Black Cauldron, The v2.00 [tr Ru] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - done in the 90s or 00s, but it makes the most sense to put these together with the primary release since they are technically hacks. * Car (1987)(My Lee) [Racing - Driving].zip - Works only in monochrome, and hangs if you're not. * Chinese Chess (1987)(Anonymous) [Strategy].zip - Related to the release in 1993 by Roleigh Martin, this is a .com file vs a pklited exe. This may have originated via Borland in their Turbo Pascal package. * Commando v1.01 [DC] (1987)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Action].zip - taken from the "#1 Arcade Hit" collection, and they just forgot to change the version number. "COMMANDO version 1.01 1987.02.25 Copyright 1986 by Data East USA, Inc." Has slightly different title screen and gameplay graphics. * Commando v1.01 [DC][b1][h1] (1987)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Action].zip - Earlier version from above and modified to support hercules cards. Both versions have the same, very strange joystick routine: for the X/Y axes, the game writes and reads from port $200 instead of $201, which does not work under DOSBox. * Crazy Cars [a1] (1987)(Titus Interactive S.A.) [Action, Racing - Driving].zip - Different loader mechanism. * Crazy Cars [a2] (1987)(Titus Interactive S.A.) [Action, Racing - Driving].zip - Different crack, apparently done by me but I don't remember it. Uncracked OVL file included. * Crimson Crown, The (1987)(Polarware) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - yes, this is different than the 1986 version. This one actually says polarware on the title screen for example, whereas the one in 1986 does not. * Cue-Bert [h1] (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - hacked title change. * Dark Castle [a1] (1987)(Mirrorsoft Ltd.) [Action].zip - earlier release? filestamps are 1 day earlier and file sizes are different. DCOVL.COM looks legit different compared to the base version, so perhaps it's the 11/87 release, but the stamp being close to that of the HISCORE file in 1990 and corrupt Borland copyright string at the top of the file make it suspect. * Dark Castle [h1] (1987)(Mirrorsoft Ltd.) [Action].zip - the main executable has been hacked to insert a BBS advertisement screen, and it starts up in CGA mode by default. DCOVL.COM has some unreferenced stuff appended compared to the base version. * Dark Sword (1987)(Crazy Club) * actually Death Sword, 1988. - crack:

* Deep Space- Operation Copernicus (1987)(Sir-tech Software, Inc.) [Action, Simulation].zip - the DS.EX_ in this archive is _likely_ the uncracked original. It was taken off a different private collection, but we don't know if it too had been modified prior to landing in our hands. * Defender of the Crown [h1] (1987)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Strategy] - missing some credits from main .exe file. This one is cracked but has A: check, other is cleaner w/ credits. * Demon's Forge [DC][f1] (1987)(Mastertronic Group Ltd.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - various fixes by ripsaw to make this game work on 8088s. duh! * Don Quijote (Es)(1987)(Dinamic Software) [Adventure] - requires all input to be in upper case * Don Quijote (Es) [a1] (1987)(Dinamic Software) [Adventure].zip - may be uncracked. Compared to the base version, there's a couple minor mods plus some text changed. * Dungeon of Death [b1] (1987)(Softdisk Publishing) [Adventure].zip - DEATH.EXE, offset 81Eh-9FFh should be code (compiled BASIC) but it's not. The range is consistent with a bad sector on a floppy disk, but the content looks more like an errant write of some kind of data. In any case, the game crashes on the command list when reading the rules, maybe other places as well. * Earl Weaver Baseball [h1] (1987)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Sports].zip - v1.0. sadly hacked up by Italsoft. * Eden Blues (Fr) [DC][a1] (1987)(ERE Informatique) [Action, Adventure].zip - 1 byte change: A vs C. Probably a default drive letter change, this is probably the original. * Elite [a1] (1987)(Firebird Software Ltd.) [Action, Simulation, Strategy].zip - different build, yet still says "Release:1? 1-10-87" * Elite v2 (1987)(Firebird Software Ltd.) [Action, Simulation, Strategy].zip - says "Release:V2 (TF) 8-12-87" * Ernie's Big Splash [a1] (1987)(Hi-Tech Expressions, Inc.) [Educational].zip - different version, but I don't believe VERSION.DAT to be accurate, so we'll just call this an [a1] for now. * Falcon [a1] (1987)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - Appears to be an earlier revision. This one does not let you choose the CGA palette at the start. * Family Feud [a1] (1987)(ShareData, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - different opening/credits screen. * First Over Germany (1987)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - use the included .xls spreadsheet for figuring out your crew assignments. There is no way to crack this game without destroying gameplay. * Ford Simulator [a1] (1987)(Ford Motor Company) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - may be an uncracked version. 2 byte code changes * Ghosts 'N Goblins (1987)(Capcom U.S.A., Inc.) [Action].zip - This is rev1 of the game, dated October 1987, except for the deprotected program file GHOST.EXE. * Ghosts 'N Goblins [a1] (1987)(Capcom U.S.A., Inc.) [Action].zip - This is rev0 of the game, dated August 1987. Differences that I have noticed between the two versions: rev0's joystick calibration routine measures top-left, center and bottom-right positions. rev1's joystick calibration routine only measures the center position. rev0 will bail out with "error 2009: Not enough space for environment" if you have too many environment variables defined. rev1 does not seem to care about your environment variables. Some of the opening screens have been changed (left: rev0, right: rev1). * Goody (Es) [DC][h1] (1987)(Opera Soft) [Action, Adventure].zip - Title changed to 'Mario' * Great Escape, The [a2] (1987)(Ocean Software Ltd.) [Action, Adventure].zip - appears to have a loader modification tacked onto the end of escape.exe (it's not a virus, there's text about a 64k fixup) * Great Escape, The [a4] (1987)(Ocean Software Ltd.) [Action, Adventure].zip - unmodified version [a2]. * Guild of Thieves, The v1.1 [a1] (1987)(Rainbird Software) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction] - unknown hacker modified exe/resources to load uncompressed data * Infiltrator [a1] (1987)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Action, Adventure, Simulation].zip - very different startup sequences and opening menus:

* Millionaire- The Stock Market Simulation (Release 2) v1.1 [a1] (1987)(Blue Chip Software) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - different crack and fix to not run from \Million\ folder * Mission (Fr) [b1] (1987)(Loriciels) [Action].zip - Best known dump. Appears to have some corrupt graphics on title screen. Mods have been made to this game (loader and datafile edit), but I am not sure if it is a crack or not.Proper copy found! * Mini-Putt (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Sports].zip - conversion by NewRisingSun, Uses a data file (from a clean disk image) instead of a whole disk image, and saves high scores to COURSEx.HI. * Nebulus [h1] (1987)(Hewson Consultants Ltd.) [Action].zip - different crack, graffiti cracked by in the credits. * New York Times Crossword Puzzles, The Volume III (1987)(ShareData, Inc.) [Strategy, Puzzle].zip - identical to Daily Crossword Puzzles from the New York Times (1987)(ShareData, Inc.) [Strategy, Puzzle].zip except for the first 4 bytes of PZl7.ANS, which might be corruption in Daily.... This game was likely reboxed/rebranded (sharedata does a lot of that) which explains how the title changes but the content doesn't. Need some box scans/disk label scans. * Objectif Monde I (Fr) (1987)(Coktel Vision) [Educational].zip - crack:

* Olisex (1987)(Andreas Görg) [Adult] - not a game. * Palace Adventure (1987)(PC-SIG) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - missing "read.txt" which is called by read.bat but it may be possible that stuff was added by a BBS/shareware house and it's really related to the game. The distro on if-archive doesn't have the bat file. * PC Downs [a1] (1987)(Michael P. Ellerbe) [Simulation, Sports].zip - has source code, no credits. Possible that m. ellerbe didn't write it! * Pinball Wizard (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - program expects files to be in the root directory. * Platoon (CGA) (1987)(Data East Corporation) [Action] - different filesystem, CGA only, no title screen. Non CGA version has Tandy, CGA, Herc and EGA * Poker! (1987)(ShareData, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards].zip - This is a rebundled release of "Poker (1986)(Immaculata Software) [Strategy, Cards].zip" * Police Quest- In Pursuit of the Death Angel v2.0g [a1] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - this is the 2x720k version. * ProChallenge Baseball v1.04 [SW][a1] (1987)(JBE LTD.) [Simulation, Sports].zip - Appears to be a slightly later release, updated guide. * Quantoids of Nebulous IV [b1] (1987)(Kludgeware) [Action].zip - Requires a file called order.exe which is not in the archive- game runs fine if you simply copy quantoid.exe to order.exe. Best dump known. Better dump found! * Rad Warrior [a1] (1987)(Epyx, Inc.) [Action] - several crack differences * Reader Rabbit [b1] (1987)(Learning Company, The) [Educational].zip - a few files are truncated to 0 bytes. Best known dump * Rebel Charge at Chickamauga (1987)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy, War].zip - crack

* Roadwar Europa [a1] (1987)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG), Strategy].zip - start.exe patched to display answers to the quiz, so it is likely not cracked at all, meaning it could be merged to make a complete .exe again. * Mixed-Up Mother Goose (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure][!].zip - formerly Roberta Williams' Mixed-Up Mother Goose (AGI) (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].zip, we don't need (AGI) since the year of release describes that fairly well. Known good dump as files from 2x360k matched 1x720k dumps. * Saboteur II (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Adventure].zip (and variants) - virus scanners will detect this as the durell trojan. Please see the trivia here: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/saboteur-ii for information, and live peacefully knowing that the trojan activity has been disabled. * Saboteur II [h1] (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Adventure].zip - Very modified opening title screen by cracker group. * Sapiens (Fr) (1987)(Loriciel SA) [Action, Aventure].zip - Pull the dosbox clock way down or you will get a divide error as the game tries to determine what speed to run at. Same is true for the English version. * Scrabble [f1] (1987)(Vic Rice) [Strategy].zip - fix was done in 1991 and says v1.1 in the updated doc file, but it's really just a raw hex-edit patch * Search and Destroy! (1987)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action, Strategy].zip - crack:

Appears to have cleaner copies of the pictures though (un-filled in) and different background color. May be useful for restoration back to original state, but otherwise no different than non [a1] * Space Quest- The Sarien Encounter v2.2 (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) * Spy's Adventures in Europe, The [a1] (1987)(Polarware) [Educational].zip - different file sets, no version# discovered. * Spy's Adventures in North America, The [a1] (1987)(Polarware) [Educational].zip - different file sets, no version# discovered. * Sram (Fr) [a1] (1987)(ERE Informatique) [Adventure].zip - code.exe has a single byte difference, which appears to be corruption. No biggie. However FSRAM.EXE has "hacked" text strings which replace a message with a copyright ERE string, which seems like something a publisher would do and not a hacker trying to get street cred. * Starflight (1987)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - yes, this is different than the one in 1986. This one supports EGA, 1986 one is CGA at best. * Star Trek- First Contact (1987)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Adventure] - Moby says 1988, box and disk scan do too. * Sub Battle Simulator [a1] (1987)(Epyx, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - every file is different! * Super Hang-On [a1] (1987)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Racing - Driving] - Different file structure, no loader, or at least no pirate group loader. * Super Hang-On [h1] (1987)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Racing - Driving] - uses loader with "cracked by" to start game. * Superbike Challenge v1.1 [h1] (1987)(Brøderbund Software, Inc.) [Racing - Driving].zip - title screen graffiti. * Superstar Ice Hockey [a1] (1987)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Sports] - different build of executable. * Superstar Indoor Sports [a1] (1987)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Sports] - Not rightly sure what's different-every .exe has a different checksum than the other version. Play.com has been hacked in both files. * Swords and Sorcery (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG), Compilation].zip - MENU.BA_ renamed so the two disks could be merged. Original filename is MENU.BAT on disk 2. * Tales of the Unknown, Volume I- The Bard's Tale [a1] (1987)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)] - different file sets, but same bard.exe? Weird. * Talisman- Challenging the Sands of Time [a1] (1987)(Polarware) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different fileset and .exe file. This one came from ifdb.org. Font looks different too. * Talisman- Challenging the Sands of Time [a2] (1987)(Polarware) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different crack but includes the uncracked version too. * Test Drive [a1] (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - different crack to EGA version, but also seems to include a herc mode. Missing CGA though. * Test Drive [h1] (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - CGA only, different .exe file. appears that background image ordering has been altered. * Test Drive [h2] (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - EGA only, graffiti cracker message in exe * Test Drive [tr Es] (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - CGA only, partially translated to Spanish * Tetris [a1] (1987)(Spectrum Holobyte, Inc.) [Action, Strategy] - joystick message at start is different
(y/n) vs (y or n)! ;)
This version is earlier and does not display the airplane on the title screen on the EGA version. * Thexder (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action].zip - rev A or B, August 1987 version. encryption layer removed. * Thexder [a1] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action].zip - known as revC, November 1987 version, "1.2 meg fix". encryption layer removed. * Thexder [a2] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action] - rev or B, august 1987 with encryption layer intact. (see MAINxx files) * Thexder [a3] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action].zip - known as revC, November 1987 version, "1.2 meg fix". encryption layer intact. * Tomahawk (En)(De)(Fr) [a1] (1987)(Datasoft, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - has a different title, language selection screen * Transylvania (1987)(Polarware - Penguin Software, Inc.) [Adventure] - moby says 1986, no dates verifiable anywhere, except dates in archive are mostly 1987. * Trekboer v1.3 (1987)(Mark Data Products) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction] - This one says 1984 in the title screen, but the source code that was later released with the game itself says v1.3 was released in 1987 in the comments. If earlier versions materialize, then obviously those release dates will change. * Trojan (1987)(Capcom Co., Ltd.) [Action] - Requires joystick. No apparent way around it. * Ultima I- The First Age of Darkness [a1] (1987)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - 2nd release off floppy, dated 1987-12-29. * Ultima III- Exodus (1987)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)][!].zip - 4th release on floppy. Same as from the Ultima Trilogy series. Floppy diskette has Black+white label, 2 sided diskette. * Ultima IV- Quest of the Avatar [h1] (1987)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - appears to be a different build than the base, also graffiti crack message at title screen. * Universe v1.3 [b1] (1987)(Omnitrend Software) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)] - receive an "overlay not found" error and dump to DOS after attempting to go to docking control. * Vegas Gambler v1.1 (1987)(Logical Design Works, Inc.) There were also a couple of problems with the joystick calibration where the directions weren't displayed; fixed those too. * Video Vegas (1987)(Baudville) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - crack: (not really a crack, but it failed to load if something was read from A:) May have other patches applied; may be hacked/graffitied by "hacker jack", but it's hard to be sure. crack:

[Strategy][!].zip - version# comes from diskette label. this is an unplayed, original known good dumps. WOF saves data all over the files as the game is played, so every version we find will report differently. If the .EXE file is different then we keep it, otherwise it's definitely a dupe and has been played. * Wheel of Fortune - Junior Edition [a2] (1987)(ShareData, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - answers.dat file is different by 1 byte. could be corruption, but more likely the game keeps track of what questions has been asked so the game is different every time. * Wizardry II- The Knight of Diamonds [DC][b1] (1987)(Sir-tech Software, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - This release is prone to two common errors: 1. Save files written on the same disk as all other data. And, it seems, Wiz1 and Wiz2 have different places for this saves. That means that during converting saves from first part to second you have great chance to break disk, destroying important game data. 2. Some research in the internet shown that the same error can happen even if you simply play Wiz2 too much and make too much saved characters, eliminating important objects in the dungeon and have other weird consequences. All one-disk versions of Wiz2 that I found in the internet are identical (maybe differs by existing saves). And all are broken already. It's impossible to play Wiz2 from this set - after character import you'll get "error somewhere-somewhere" on each loot screen (after encounter), after that game crashed. So game is [b1], and we need fresh image instead this .dsk. ==1988== * $100,000 Pyramid, The v1.3 (1988)(Box Office) [Strategy] - actually says "IBM version 1.3" in the LL corner. [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - technically a [b1] but gameplay is totally unaffected. install.exe (MD5 of 00f59a3dddba65323a69adc1d4d2799f) was infected with the "revenge" virus. The original install program merely calls out to an installer program and script, which was easily substituted for a batch file. If we can find an original copy, we will be able to restore the game completely. - game has MCGA command line switch but MCGA graphics do not exist. /d[c,e,m] = Use display mode - c=CGA, e=EGA, m=MCGA * Jr. Pac-Man [h1][b1] (1988)(Thunder Mountain) [Action] - works in DOS 6.22. Hacked at exit with cracked by note. Seems to be missing the EGA version. (JRPACEGA.EXE) The game's EGA mode will only work on EGA cards, not on VGA cards, as tested by keropi on real systems with a variety of cards. This is because the game relies on an alias port of the attribute controller resulting from "sloppy" port address decoding of the original IBM EGA which was duplicated by clones for compatibility. DOSBox supports this game after April 19, 2021; one only needs to use the machine=ega setting in latest SVN to get support for that. All of this is true for Super Pac-Man from the same publisher. * Jump Jet [h1] (1988)(Anco Software Ltd.) [Simulation].zip - uses a recycled loader to start the game; use JUMPJET.BAT to start. Not sure if "cht" means it has also been hacked to be cheated? Would love to have a better copy. * Kings of the Beach [tr Es][b1] (1988)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) The only difference is the install.bat file doesn't ask for disk 2 to copy files off of. * Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love (In Several Wrong Places) v1.000.011 [a1] (1988)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure][!].zip - 3.5" version. non [a1] is the 5.25" version. Uncracked, but the codes are available. * Life & Death v1.04 (1988)(Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Simulation].zip - crack:

[Action].zip - hacked to change release date to 1989 by "chip soft" instead of "topo soft" * Mad Show (Fr) (1988)(Silmarils) [Action].zip - The game uses the OPL chip like a DAC, which is intelligible in some unofficial builds of DOSBox with a "sampleaccurate" setting. In official builds you can use a sbtype=none setting and the digitized sound will be through the PC speaker. crack:

(1988)(Hi-Tech Expressions, Inc.) Not sure if intel was the actual publisher, but it is certainly a pro-intel piece of propagan..err..gaming history. * Might and Magic II- Gates to Another World (1988)(New World Computing, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - (all versions) needs a DOSBox tweak of "loadfix -4 mm2.exe" to run it properly. * Might and Magic II- Gates to Another World v1.01 [a1] (1988)(New World Computing, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - different crack on 1menu1.ovl. * Mind-Roll [h1][b1] (1988)(Epyx, Inc.) [Action, Strategy].zip - missing ega+tandy files at a minimum * Mindfighter [b1] (1988)(Activision, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - uncracked I believe. May have been taken straight off floppies-gotta verify. * Neurobics (Installer) [b1] (1988)(Ocean Isle Software) [Strategy, Educational].zip - all .exe files are tagged with "MsDos" as the last few bytes (I think this is some antivirus tool). Game still runs fine, but .exe files will never be CRCed as original. Run install first to pick video mode. * Ninja (1988)(Mastertronic Group Ltd.) [Action].zip - Different .exes with 1988 timestamps, all other files match 1986 release. * Nobunaga's Ambition [a1][f1] (1988)(KOEI Co., Ltd.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - Different version, modified directory structure in main.exe to keep all the files in the root folder. * One-Sale Manager (Ru) (19xx)(Anonymous) [Simulation].zip - not really sure what this is. Edit the "members.txt" to include up to 13 people, then hit the space bar to select them for the race. Hit enter to start. Seems like random chances who will win. Not really a game, but entertaining, sorta. Date is unknown. Files are dated 1984, but supports EGA and uses an EGA/VGA driver written in 1988. wtf? Not even sure if it's russian. The members.txt is full of russian titles, but the rest of the game is in English... wtf indeed! * Othello v4.2 [h1] (1988)(Earl Waud) [Strategy].zip - Hacked exit screen removal of a request for cash for the source code. May have been done by the author as it does not seem malicious. * Paperboy [a1] (1988)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Action].zip - Possibly a pre release. Some interesting details: There is no Tandy graphics support. All other versions support Tandy graphics. There is no sound. All other versions have PC speaker sound. The CGA graphics are identical. But there is another "CGA on EGA" mode that supposedly makes use of additional video memory to remove flicker. No other version has that mode. The EGA graphics look completely different: they run in 640x350 mode, are not speed-limited, and look rather nice (by 1988 standards). The EGA palette is also modified to use custom colors. All other versions use 320x200 mode, use the default 16 color palette, but are speed-limited. (Use machine=ega to run this in DOSBox, otherwise there will be graphical errors.) I think the graphical patterns are actually the same, but the higher resolution really helps here. Looking at MobyGames, it seems that the graphics are based on the Amstrad CPC version, and this version looks much closer to it than the others. There is a READ.ME file that explains technical details. No other version I have seen has that file. * Paperboy [a2] (1988)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Action].zip - matches closest to the [h1] version, but still different .exe files. * PC-Jigsaw [SW][a1] (1988)(Bill Dedes) [Educational].zip - modified exe header/footer. Otherwise identical * Pharaoh's Revenge [h1] (1988)(Publishing International) [Action, Adventure, Strategy].zip - total hack job by company C pirate group. * President is Missing, The (1988)(Celery Software, Cosmi Corporation) [Adventure].zip - This copy sourced from underdogs. If you want to create your own profile, run SU.EXE. Enter anything you want for Supervisor's name and other information. Then, move the file "SA" that the program created from root directory into the game's directory. If you don't want to create your own profile, you can use mine to run the game directly. Relevant info is the following: Code Name : Underdogs Supervisor's Name : SCIN Last Name : Detective First Name : Private Birthdate : 010101 Mothers Maiden Name : Maiden Name Of Person You Will Never Forget : Elvis * Phantasie III- The Wrath of Nikademus (1988)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)] [!].zip - verified original disk against rip from 8088state release. * Play 'n Learn v2.10 [SW][a1] (1989)(HomeCraft Computer Products) [Educational].zip - smaller exe files, same version displayed on screen. Also crashes freeing memory in dosbox like the non [a1]. * Pole Position [f1] (1988)(Thunder Mountain) [Action, Simulation, Racing - Driving][!].zip - taken off known good IMA file. Game uses hardcoded paths to A:, so drive.exe has been modified (fixed) to allow it to work from any drive/folder. Original drive.exe is renamed to drive.ex_ as per TDC guidelines. * Police Quest 2- The Vengeance v1.002.011 (1988)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - uncracked, codes are available in the docs section. Not sure where or how this version came about; it may be the result of many different upgrade patches or it's one ripped from a re-release compilation. * Pool of Radiance (Installer) (1988)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - includes pre-cracked start.exe to copy over the installed one. * Pool of Radiance v1.2 (Installer) (1988)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Adventure, Role Playing (RPG)].zip - patched to use less obnoxious directory structure, but must still be played from \SW1 (on any drive) * Serve & Volley [a1] (1988)(Accolade, Inc.) [Sports].zip - different build of the .exe and overlay file. weird. * Serve & Volley (Es) [a1] (1988)(Accolade, Inc.) [Sports].zip - many file mods. not sure if these are player changes or hacks or what. Update: it appears the .dat files are based on gameplays and might all be able to be deleted to reset them back to factory default. This might also eliminate some of the variants. * Serve & Volley [h1] (1988)(Accolade, Inc.) [Sports].zip - crack by message once you get to tournament selection options. * Shadowgate (1988)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - run "newdrive" if you are running this game from any drive other than C: run runme.bat to load crack TSR and run game. This zip should maybe be tagged as [f1] since all these additional bits are included. * Silpheed [b1] (1988)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action].zip - missing gdemo.exe, possibly others. best known dump complete dump found, moved to 1989 * Skyfox II- The Cygnus Conflict [b1] (1988)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Strategy].zip - Taken from kryoflux image off original disk. Matches the [h1] italsoft without the hacked credits. * Solomon's Key [a1] (1988)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action, Strategy].zip - torrentzipped and tweaked exe header. * Solomon's Key [h1] (1988)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) Comparison of (Fr) version to [f1] version: [fr] no broderbund in title screen [fr] no version number in title screen, [f1] is version 1.0 [fr] championship race option is not available, just races [1] [2] [3] [fr] CTRL-Q option to quit/reboot is not available [fr] has "no text at all" in the executable [fr] timestamps are wrong, but a good part of the files is identical to [f1] [fr] has no copy protection, [f1] does [fr] executable SPACE.EXE [f1] has SR.EXE (Fr) may be a prototype, since it appears to lack features. * Spiderbot [DC][b1] (1988)(Epyx, Inc.) [Action].zip - originally converted to DOS by demonlord, but there's a bug in the code (no pun intended). There was a mistake where the load CS was added to the stack pointer. The base version is a fixed version of this version. * Spiderbot [DC][a1] (1988)(Epyx, Inc.) [Action].zip - loader by Mok, who typically uses 286+ instructions so this version will not work on the machine it was originally written to run on. Should probably be tagged [b2] instead. * Star Trek- The Rebel Universe [b1] (1988)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - only has EGA files. best dump available.Different archive contains CGA version, this version is separate and thus not bad. * Spy vs. Spy III- Arctic Antics (1988)(Epyx, Inc.) [Action, Strategy].zip - technically by first star software, but looks to be part of the Maxx out! series, as mentioned here, so the publisher is now Epyx. http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/maxx-out-series * Star Command (1988)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - SPPIC-1.BAS -2 and -3 files were duplicated from disk1 to disk2 and were not identical. the BA_ versions are from disk2. * Star Command [a1] (1988)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - different crack by replacing all doc check words with "aaa" instead of "xxx". Some .dat files are different too. * Street Fighter (Installer) (1988)(Capcom Co., Ltd.) [Action].zip - DOSBox has difficulty with passed parameters in batch files so the installer will fail. just extract the archive into C:\STREET and be done with it. * Strip Poker II (1988)(Artworx Software Co, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards, Adult].zip - poker.exe has a 1989 timestamp and has some typos repaired, so appears to be a later release. suzi.obj has "SHIT!" changed to "DAMN!" which may or may not be official. These files match a tgod floppy image 2085 which is fake (disk formatted by winImage) * Strip Poker II [a1] (1988)(Artworx Software Co, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards, Adult].zip - older release, with "embarassing" typo and smaller .exe file. suzi.obj has "SHIT" instead of "DAMN" except timestamp on those two files is 1991, so it's hard to figure how an earlier release has an older timestamp. * Strip Poker II (1988)(TERMINATOR CO., LTD.) [Strategy, Cards, Adult].zip - released in Taiwan, may have copy protection added to the [a1] release as they are otherwise identical. * Strike Fleet (1988)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - seems to be missing a file SFHD as part of the installation process, but likely does not impact gameplay. We need an original disk image. * Tark Simmons, Priestess of the First Church, in her battle against the Demon of Dark Desire (1988)(W. P. Kegelmeyer) [Adventure] - compiled using a later version of AGT, but still released in 1988 cuz it won an award... * Tark Simmons, Priestess of the First Church, in Her Battle Against the Demon of Dark Desire [a1] (1988)(W. P. Kegelmeyer) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - Missing title and all files are slightly different. * Time and Magik- The Trilogy [f1] (1988)(Mandarin Software) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction] - has patch to convert FCB file access to windows friendly version. * Times of Lore [a1] (1988)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Action, Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - modified to load a file called EGABRI.OVL. Haven't diagnosed what it is or when it gets loaded. I don't believe it to be a virus payload. * Tower Toppler [a1] (1988)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action, Strategy] - TGA+CGA version. This was released in Taiwan, so the publisher is likely wrong but we don't know what it should be. * Tower Toppler (CGA) [a1] (1988)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action, Strategy] - CGA version only, cracked different. Could someday merge the two to get an uncracked version. * Tower Toppler (CGA) [a2] (1988)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action, Strategy].zip - different, simpler credits. Done via hacking, but still retains Hewson as creator(?) * Vectorball [a1] (1988)(M.A.D.) [Action].zip - this version was taken off floppy image Vectorball (1988)(M.A.D.) [IMA][360k][!].zip and is different than the non a1. This release has info/code for adjusting player speeds and (tandy) joystick. * Virus [a1] (1988)(Firebird Software Ltd.) [Action].zip - includes a CGA version. EGA version has different .exe file * Wheel of Fortune - New Second Edition [a1] (1988)(ShareData, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - Different .exe, plays in a different palette. * Will Harvey's Zany Golf (1988)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Sports] - crack:

[Action, Adventure].zip - Graffiti startup screen. * Win, Lose, or Draw! [a2] (1988)(Hi-Tech Expressions, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - Plays different opening tune and the living room scene has different artwork. * Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (1988)(Lucasfilm Games) [Adventure][!].zip - copied off original 720k disk, compares identical to the 2x360k disks in the same package. * Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders [a1] (1988)(Lucasfilm Games) [Adventure].zip - vastly different build of the game. Is missing a "(c) 1988" claim toward the later end of zak.exe so it's possible this is a pre-release? Several LFL files are different/sized too. * Zork Quest 2- The Crystal Of Doom [DC][a1] (1988)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - Played, so the bookmarks are not at the starting point. Press R in the game to restart; that will reset the bookmarks too. It's debatable if we need both copies of this game. ==1989== * 007- Licence to Kill [b1] (1989)(Domark Ltd..) [Action, Racing - Driving].zip - corrupt opening screen. CGA only. EGA only (Missing Tandy, CGA) A proper dump including all three video modes is available in TDC. * A 320 (Fr) [a1] (1988)(Loriciels) [Adventure, Simulation].zip - New deprotect that works on real hardware; no longer requires mounting the game to A:\. * A Dudley Dilemma v1.2 [a2] (1989)(Lane Barrow) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - Has a different run.exe, which looks to be more timeframe accurate to the release date. * A-Maze [a1] (1989)(Wizard Games) [Action].zip - different exe, not due to compression. gameplay seems identical. * Action Fighter [a1] (1989)(Firebird Software Ltd.) [Action, Racing - Driving].zip - Different release, has Tandy support! * Adventures of Captain Comic Episode 1, The - Planet of Death r3 [SW][a1] (1989)(Michael A. No other changes * APB [a1] (1989)(Domark Software, Inc.) [Action, Racing - Driving].zip - less video options at start * Arkanoid 2- Revenge of Doh v2.08 (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Sourced from 360k kfx dump in TDC. Dated 1989-08-02: with support for the Creative Music System/Game Blaster. The 720k version is different only in copy protection files. * Arkanoid 2- Revenge of Doh v2.08 [a1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Earlier build from June 1989 which does not have CMS support. * Aspar GP Master (CGA) (Es) [h1] (1989)(Dinamic Software) [Racing - Driving].zip - title image graffiti. * Asterix Operation Getafix [h1] (1989)(Coktel Vision) [Action, Adventure].zip - The game originally had a speed check that in this version has been hacked away to be set at a fixed value, likely because the speed check caused a Divide Error on faster systems. As a result, running this 1989 game properly requires a DOSBox "cycle" setting of about 25000. It appears as if someone had moved the "sweet spot" (instead of expanded it) for running this game from a 286 CPU to a Pentium CPU twenty years ago so he or she could play the game on the then-current systems of the day. 1B277 changed from 00 30 52 50 90 90 BA to 50 C3 52 50 9A 74 05. The 50 C3 52 50 9A 74 50 is the original code from the routine that adjusts the delay interval according to the measured CPU speed. * Aventura Original, La (Es) (1989)(Aventuras AD) [Adventure].zip - appears to be an [f1] in that the DOS version under dosbox bombs out. [Action].zip - hangs dosbox. might be useful for unhacking/datestamp fixes on the non [] version * Barbarian II- Dungeons of Drax [h1] (1989)(Epyx, Inc., Palace Software, Ltd.) [Action].zip - intro hacked by NYC * Batman- The Caped Crusader (1989)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Action, Adventure].zip - Taken off tgod floppy set. If one takes bl.exe from the base version to see the intro+title screen, you can see the credits are changed slightly. Different GRAFTABL.CGA compared to base. This could be a late beta. * Blockout v1.1 (1989)(California Dreams) [Action, Strategy].zip - taken from an odd 3.5" disk with 360k of data in the IMA file. matches tgod 1066 file set, so probably a [!]. crack:

The bug occurs in the EGA version at offset CS:22F5. The game has the Y position of the player sprite in AH, the X position in AL, the Y sprite size in CH, and the X sprite size in CL. "Position" means upper left corner. The game then performs "ADD CX, AX" to add the sprite size to the position in order to obtain the lower right boundary of the sprite. If the sprite is sufficiently off-screen, then ADD CX, AX will result in an integer overflow, causing the lower-right boundary to be effectively above the actual upper left corner, yielding negative copy sizes, and thus the memory corruption. This occurs in both the CGA and EGA versions; you just don't notice it as much in the CGA versions because the layout of the corrupted memory is a bit different. The problem only occurs if the sprite is sufficiently off-screen to trigger the problem but not sufficiently off-screen to make the game end the sequence beforehand. This largely depends on your current falling angle and speed, hence "semi-random". * Chomp! [b1] (1989)(Cosmi Corporation) [Action].zip - best known dump. missing "CHOMP.MUS" if using CMS and hangs at menu.exe. game can be played by launching menu.exe directly. - 2 copies of this game have now surfaced and both are missing that file, so this might be a manufacturing defect. * City (1989)(John Y Lewis) [Strategy].zip - Password for city.exe is "GoldDust" * Code-Name- Iceman v1.009 (PCjr) (1989)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure, Simulation].zip - This is a direct zip off the Sierra QA machine as discovered by LGR reviews (youtube) taken from Computer Reset. There's lots of savegames and other cruft in here, but it will not be cleaned out since this is historic. Requires machinetype=PCjr if running in DOSBox. * Codename- ICEMAN v1.023 (Es) (1989)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure, Simulation].zip - There are lots of extra files in here- it seems like a resource.x extractor may have been run on the game before it was zipped up. [Sports].zip - 720k version which has a EWBB_3.IEA file as compared to the 5.25" version which has EWBB_5.IEA * Echelon v2.0 (1989)(Access Software, Inc.) [Adventure, Simulation].zip - comes on 2 disks and TITLE.RAH exists on both. One was renamed to TITLE.RA_ This version appears to run better than the 3.x versions also in 1989 (doesn't ask for disk 2 anyway) * Echelon v3.50 (1989)(Access Software, Inc.) [Adventure, Simulation].zip - taken from IMA file of the same name. IMA file from ibmpc5150. Requires to be run off the root since it has some folder requirements, or run the installer. * EGA Trek v2.0 [a1][SW] (1989)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy].zip - Different serial number. yawn. * EGA Trek v2.1 [SW][a1] (1989)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy].zip - hacked? to say 1992 in the egatrek.txt file, but game still says 1989. Registration fee went up to $15. Some registration numbers were also found to be different: registration record 0011 in TREK.EXE - EGA Trek [SW] (1988)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy] registration record 0070 in TREK.EXE - EGA Trek v2.0 [SW] (1989)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy] registration record 0046 in TREK.EXE - EGA Trek v2.0 [SW][a1] (1989)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy] registration record 0044 in TREK.EXE - EGA Trek v2.0 [SW][a2] (1989)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy] registration record 1482 in TREK.EXE - EGA Trek v2.1 [SW] (1989)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy] registration record 0099 in TREK.EXE - EGA Trek v2.1 [SW][a1] (1989)(Nels Anderson) [Strategy] * EGAwalls (1989)(Polik) [Simulation].zip - This game needs to be ran twice in order to run in DosBox. XMS and EMS need to be turned ON. * Emilio Butragueno Futbol (Es) (1989)(Ocean Software Ltd.) [Simulation, Sports].zip - FUTBOL.COM was renamed to bypass copy protection. The publisher added a loader (FUTBOL.COM) which does a disk check then loads in a "data" file which was actually just the .exe Some clever person discovered that the data file was simply an exe file and renamed it. Launch the game with "data.exe" and you can bypass the protection entirely. Thus FUTBOL.COM didn't need to be cracked. Until we get a pristine copy off floppy, I think the following: 1) rename FUTBOL.COM FUTBOL.CO_ (doing this so it is not executed accidentally, but we still can track it in the .dat file.) 2) delete Buitre.exe entirely 3) rename data.exe to FUTBOL.EXE 4) add a wiki entry with this info so we have some kind of traceability of mods made. * European Space Simulator (Fr)(En)(It)(Es)(De) [h1][b1] (1989)(Tomahawk) [Strategy].zip - Appears different than ESS Mega, although based on the same game. Hacked by cracking group and the launch.bat file is corrupt. Best dump known. * Eye of Horus (Installler) [f1] (1989)(Fanfare) [Action].zip - use install.bat from C: to install to C:\horus. Installs cracked versions and offers start menu (CGA/EGA/Tandy) * Eye of Horus [h1] (1989)(FanFare) [Action].zip - different build. All doc check values are edited out to 000000 and the doc check screen modified to show that. Missing CGA and tandy support, so also bad. timestamps are bad. why bother with this one? * F-16 Combat Pilot (CGA-Mono) [h1] (1989)(Digital Integration Ltd.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - loader for startup. Using digital integration as publisher here since it says "Colour" and one would think a true US release would have that changed, maybe. There's also multi-language support embedded in the executable but it never asks. * F-16 Combat Pilot (EGA-Tandy) [f1] (1989)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - fixed to adjust EGA or Tandy with a selector. Odd since just running F16.com does the same thing? * F-19 Stealth Fighter v435.04 (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - Taken from floppy image (TGOD #57) and added a batch selector for sound (which was not in the setup) as well as the hidden plane change. * Face Off! [a1] (1989)(Gamestar Software Ltd.) [Sports].zip - different/bigger .exe files. Later release? * Fans (demo) [h1] (1989)(Mettus Graphics) [Action].zip - hacked by Italsoft * Fidelity Chessmaster 2100 v1.15 [b1] (1989)(Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Strategy, Chess].zip - missing CGA and other files2nd copy sourced, same fileset. I don't believe this game is not bad or missing files. * Fast Lane [a1] (1989)(R. Baribault) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - June vs Oct releases. This version is from June 1989 and was built with Adventure Game Studio 1.18 The other one in TDC is from October 1989 and was built with AGS 1.7 * Ferrari Formula One (1989)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) Should merge and uncrack someday. The non [a1] is start.exe "infected" with the MsDos string at the end of the file. * Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O' Fun [h1] (1989)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Action].zip - graffiti'ed hack by our own trixter. * Fluf! This version does include the title screen where the other copy does not (or it goes by too fast), so there is some value in this copy. * Ghostbusters II [a1] (1989)(Activision, Inc.) [Action].zip - different batch files. Only interesting as it appears to be a later release with typos fixed. [Racing - Driving, Simulation, Sports].zip - taken off original disk, cracked with neverlock. Crack requires decompression of indy.exe, so bytes won't compare nicely. This version of the .exe seems to be different than the others, but no version number found. * Insanity [a1] (1989)(Wizard Games) [Strategy, Action].zip - appears to be an older release? Certain different in file structure and demo gameplay * Interphase (1989)(Image Works) [Action, Adventure].zip - crack:

* Interstellar War [McKenzie][1989][patch][demo][1.02].zip - completely broken. Receive a runtime error 002, which IIRC is a "too fast" for turbo pascal error. Gave same error on 286 and 8088 running 4.77MHz! Doesn't appear to be a proper game anyway, dumped. * IQ 180 (智商180) (Zh) (1989)(The Third Wave Publishing Corp.) [Strategy, Puzzle].zip - The game could be launched only from the root directory due to hardcoded paths inside the main .exe * Jet Fighter- The Adventure v1.01 [h1] (1989)(Velocity Inc.) [Simulation].zip - horribly mangled by italsoft * Kingdom of Kroz [SW] (1989)(Softdisk Publishing) [Action, Adventure].zip - yes, different than v2.0 and the one in 1987 * Kingdom of Kroz [SW][a1] (1989)(Apogee Software Productions) [Action, Adventure].zip - subtle differences than the non [a1], such as not asking how fast your computer is at the startup, so I judge this one to be slightly later release. * Kult- The Temple of Flying Saucers (En)(De)(Fr) [a1] (1989)(Infogrames Europe SA) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - Taken off an original disk. I deleted it out of the zip to be safe. * M1 Tank Platoon v449.01 (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - Has key disk protection and doc check, both removed. Original files included in zip. This crack bypasses the need for cputype=386prefetch in DOSBox. Taken from M1 Tank Platoon v449.01 [b1] (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [IMA][360k].zip set. * M1 Tank Platoon v449.01 [a1] (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - Taken from M1 Tank Platoon v449.01 (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [IMA][360k].zip, which came from tgod set 002728. Does not require cputype adjustments to dosbox, no disk protection, doc check removed via tankst.tnk mod below. tank.com has a wack file timestamp from 2043 so may not be original, but it came off IMA that way. * M1 Tank Platoon v449.01 [a2] (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - has issues with locking up during the opening title screen/music if you press a key. Happens in DOSBox and on real DOS machines. Supposedly after waiting several minutes for the music to stop, the game does work properly. I forced the game through with s-ice and after the opening screen, the keyboard functions normally. More discussion on this here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=15285 vogons message board. Tagged as [b1] so I can remember to come back someday and take a better look. - updated with patch by SHD. Use omnicron.com to start the game. Same goes for the Image Works version. * On Safari (1989)(Infogrames Europe SA) [Action].zip - Title screen is still "Safari Guns" and this game is 99% identical to that title, however the crack is different and the data was taken off an original "On Safari" 3.5in disk, so it would otherwise go into TDC as an [a1]. * Operation Wolf [h1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - FiRM loader and game is trained. See crack above after installation to bypass protection. * Populous- The Promised Lands v1.1 (Installer) (1989)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Strategy, Addon].zip - zipped off original write protected diskette. The v1.1 comes from this zip matching a previous copy of this zip which is now in the junkpile til it can be verified as coming from an original source. The v1.1 comes from a file "version.pop" in that archive, which does not exist in this zip, nor do the file timestamps match up with the "v1.0" release which has timestamps a month later. Long story short, that "v1.1" may be completely bogus. * Prince Of Persia [a1] (1990)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) That version string is found in other Taito games as well, including Bubble Bobble, so I suspect it's not the version of the game, but the version of some library component, possibly the sound routines. * Qix [h1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Cracked by intro message and additional junk files. * Qix [h1][a1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - NOPed out version of the above. * Qix [o1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - QIX.EXE needs to be trimmed (remove the 0xF6 bytes at the end), and its stack segment cleaned out. Otherwise this copy is good, older version than main entry. * Qix [o1][a1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Different crack than above, using an odd .com loader instead. * Qix [o1][a2] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Different crack than [o1] * Rambo III [o1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - RAMBO.COM is a useless loader (the original disk had the Softguard loader instead) and could be deleted. RAMBO.EXE needs to be trimmed and has garbage in its EXE header. * Rambo III [h1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Hacked to display "MEGA SOFT" (?) when run with the /? command line option. * Rambo III [h2] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Graffiti loader from the FiRM with renamed files. * Rampage v1.1 [a1] (1988)(Activision, Inc.) [Action].zip - same file size as the 1.2 below, likely a different crack. I suspect the non [a1] is truly v1.1 where this is actually v1.2 * Rampage v1.2 (1989)(Activision, Inc.) [Action].zip - clearly says v1.1 on the title screen, but the diskette (original) it came from says 1.2 on it with a little sticker. * Red Storm Rising v443.01 (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - taken from KFX image of the same name and merged with cracked copy from scene release. Files appear to be encrypted/compressed which explains why redstorm.com is sometimes 2x the size, it depends on if the cracker unwrapped it first. * Red Storm Rising v443.03 [a1] (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - REDSTORM.COM is 2x the size of the base, which matches the size in [a2] but not the file contents. Sadly the file dates are mangled. * Red Storm Rising v443.03 [a2] (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - Taken off original, write protected disks. readme says 443.01 but the program says 03. Requires cputype=386_prefetch in dosbox config. Other versions don't seem to need that. Cracked with crock2.exe * Red Storm Rising v443.03 [f1] (1989)(MicroProse Software, Inc.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - same as base version, but patched adlib driver. Not sure who/how/where the patch came from, so it's tagged as [f1] as it may be unofficial. * Rick Dangerous (1989)(Microplay Software) [Action, Adventure][!].zip - Taken from 720k KFX set in TDC. [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG), Strategy].zip - graffiti by mr cooldude hacker. * Sword of the Samurai v445.01 [b1] (1989)(Microprose Software, Inc.) [Action, Adventure, Strategy].zip - hacked loader, crashes DOSBox. better copy available thanks to Akuma. * Sword of the Samurai v445.01 (1989)(Microprose Software, Inc.) [Action, Adventure, Strategy].zip - Copy the file MELEE.EXE from this archive to the C disk if you are using 5 1/4" floppies, the B disk if you are using 3 1/2" floppies or your SAMURAI directory if using a hard drive. * Tactile (Tandy 1000) [f1] (1989)(Brooks deForest) [Strategy].zip - fixed source so it would run. * Targhan [h1] (1989)(Gainstar Software Ltd.) [Action, Adventure].zip - Uses a tsr patch/pirate loader. Supports VGA or CGA only. French version uses a different setup method to select options. * ThunderBlade (1989)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - taken from tgod 002398 image, which is a 720k and now in TDC as ThunderBlade (1989)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [IMA][720k].zip. File dates are 1992, which doesn't quite line up with the game's supposed release date. See tdc_images.txt for more notes. * ThunderBlade [h1] (1989)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action].zip - scene release with a loader cracktro. This version has on-disk copy protection which the loader fixes. Timestamps are period correct. Different sized .exe on this release too. replaced (see below) with unhacked version built off this release. * ThunderBlade (1989)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action].zip - crack:

[Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - likely from the ultima collection from 1997. * Ultima II- Revenge of the Enchantress (re-release) [a1] (1989)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - likely from the Ultima I-VI Series since the .exe is from 1992. * Vette! (1989)(Spectrum Holobyte, Inc.) * Vette! v1.1 (CGA-Herc) (1989)(Spectrum Holobyte, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - says 1.02 in the opening menu, then 1.1 in the main title screen. No EGA support at all. * Vette! v1.11 (1989)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation][!].zip - 1.2mb and 720k disk contents match. A previous copy of this zip had a v1.02 CGA folder which is not discovered on either of these two disks, so that zip was replaced with this one til we can confirm there should be a CGA version included. crack:

* Welltris (1989)(Infogrames, Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - taken from 720k IMA file in TDC's floppy image collection. Appears to be unused * Wings of Fury [a1] (1989)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - different startup, why is there a wav file from 1992 in here? Missing CGA too. * World Class Leader Board v5.20 [a1] (1989)(Access Software, Inc.) [Sports].zip - additional files, could be just savegames, but hard to tell. * X-Men v3.0 (1989)(Paragon Software Corporation) [Action].zip - Files have 3 layers of scambling applied to XMEN.COM and COP.FRM. This crack leaves scrambling intact. Crack:

One can also just do this: 1) rename cop.frm cop.bak (file is no longer needed) 2) copy or rename startup.com to cop.frm (this is the real game start) 3) start game with xmen.com * Xenon [a1][f1] (1989)(Virgin Mastertronic International, Inc.) [Action].zip - 360k version with fixed XENTGA file. On all other distributions, the Tandy executable (XENTGA) is corrupt (offset 190Bh through 1DFFh contains junk) and crashes when executed. The corrupt executable is in all of the file archives and images matching the 360K, some of which were taken from independent sources, so we suspect it was bad on the master sent to the duplicator. ==198x== * ARAÑA (Es) (198x)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - this looks like a hack of xonix or antixonix, but doesn't quite match up. Internally the N in arana.com should be Ñ but dosbox couldn't handle the filename. * Brick (198x)(Glen Fisher) [Action].zip - Author info comes from the original Commodore PET game. See- http://www.mobygames.com/game/pet/brick_ * Bowling Champ! (198x)(Anonymous) [Action, Sports].zip - This version was recompiled with a speed option added. Bowling champ was first published in 1984, so this version was likely 1985 or so, but the timestamp doesn't help with placement, so it goes here. * Dragonfly (198x)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - credited in most torrents to 1987, file date is 1990, no other dates or authors located. * Historias de la Puta Mili (Es) (19xx)(Anonymous) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction, Strategy, Compilation].zip - Compilation of a couple different programs, but they may not be related. Not sure who/what published this, I left the .nfo file in it in hopes of someone getting a bit better publisher/year data. * Intercept [b1] (19xx)(Anonymous) [Strategy].zip - after selecting an option, goes to a screen screen and locks up. Happens on both dosbox and true 486 machine in DOS * Juegos de estrategia (Es) [b1] (198x)(Anonymous) [Strategy].zip - Menu has links to 4 games. There are only 2 available. May be just incomplete, not bad. * Microsoft Flight Simulator vx.xx [DC](198x)(Microsoft) [Simulation].zip - These disk images are provided in teledisk format-they use 1k sector sizes. Standard .IMG files can't handle this type of disk formatting. Remember, this stuff is temporary until proper [DC]'s can be provided. * Police (198x)(Kurt L. Carpenter) [Action, Strategy].zip - says 1980 in the title, which leads us to believe this was a basic game written on a different computer and later compiled for DOS. * Rally, Snake,Star War (19xx)(Angel) [Action, Compilation].zip - what the hell is this thing? Does it have a real name?
