Begin File: undel.gz Description: undel: a QNX File Recovery Utility Keywords: file recovery unerase undelete Version: 1.00 990726 Entered-date: 26-Jul-99 Author: Robert Nadler Ported-by: Original-site: Copying-policy: free, see Copyright notice in useage message Supplemental: undel does an in-place undelete of files and will recover entire directory trees. undel will only recover files that are 'clean', i.e. all blocks that the file had originally allocated must currently be unused in the bitmap and all inode, extent, and directory blocks are intact and consistent. This ensures that the file system will not be corrupted after files are recovered (chkfsys will not complain). This does NOT mean that the contents of the undeleted file will be the same as the original though -- this can occur if blocks had been used for other purposes and subsequently released. As such, undel is most useful for recovering files that have been recently deleted. See useage message for complete details. Installation: # gunzip undel.gz # cksum undel 820596114 28244 undel 1. The undel executable must be located in the search PATH for recursive deletes to work. 2. In order to undelete, undel must have write access to the disk mount raw device (e.g. /dev/hd0t77). End
