System Requirements


Running XSI on Windows Systems

Component
Description
Operating system
Windows NT 4 SP 6a, Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher.
Windows 2000 SP2 or SP3.
Windows XP Professional (including SP1). In some cases, a HotFix is needed for a known issue with the Windows XP Professional OS noted here: Q328979.
Hardware
Workstation with AMD K7 or higher processor.
Workstation with Intel Pentium II or higher processor.
Graphics Card
WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certified, OpenGL hardware-accelerated graphics card with a minimum of 8MB RAM.

Hardware key (dongle) and converter
A hardware key and 25 pin-male to 9 pin-female converter attached to the serial port of each computer designated as a license server.
Privileges
  • To run XSI on Windows NT 4.0, you can be a User, Power user, or Administrator. To install and license XSI, you must be Administrator.
  • To run XSI on Windows 2000, you can be a Restricted user (Users), Standard user (Power Users), or Administrator, but to install plug-ins such as SPDL and add-ons, you must be a Standard user. To install and license XSI, you must be Administrator.
  • To run the Command and Object Model Reference (available from the script and scripted operator editor) or any of the HTML documentation on the Documentation CD for the first time, you must be a Standard user or Administrator because the Windows registry is updated.

Once it is run and the registry is updated, you can use the documentation as a Restricted user.

License server
Software Protection Manager (SPM™) installed on a computer that is accessible from your workstation.
Available hard-disk space
270 MB for a full installation. Additional space required during setup for decompressing files.
TCP/IP
TCP/IP service protocol installed on both client and server computers.
RAM
256 MB RAM required minimum, 512 MB RAM recommended.
Swap space
200 to 300 MB swap space.
Display resolution
1280 x 1024 screen resolution recommended.
CD-ROM drive
Access to a CD-ROM drive to run the Setup programs and to access the online documentation.
Mouse
Three-button mouse
Web browser
  • A web browser to view the Setup start pages and the HTML documentation.
  • Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later to use the Net View tool.
Additional Recommendations
  • An Internet connection for filling out the license requests form on the Softimage home page.
  • A backup device, such as a DAT, 1/4” tape drive, removable hard disk, or CD-R/CD-RW.
