The File Menu

The File menu lets you load documents, move back and forth between loaded documents, and exit ShowPS.

“Previous”		Displays the document preceding the current document. Useful when several documents are open.
“Next”		Displays the document following the current document. Useful when several documents are open.
“Open”		Brings up the File Selection panel for selecting and loading a document. See “Opening a Document.”
“Reopen”		Reopens the document you are currently viewing. Useful for reloading files after changing Options. See “The Options Menu.”
“Print”		Brings up the Print panel. See “Printing a Document.”
“Exit”		Exits ShowPS.

Tip: You can keep open more than one PostScript document at a time. Use the File menu options “Previous” and “Next” to shuffle through your open documents.

The Page Menu

The Page menu lets you browse through a document or select a specific page using the Page Selection panel.

“Previous/First Page”		Back to the previous page of a structured document. Back to the first page of an unstructured document.
“Next Page”		Forward to the next page of a document.
“Last Page Viewed”		Displays the last page you viewed before the current page. Not available to unstructured documents.
“Redraw Page”		Redraws the current page. Not available to unstructured documents.
“Page Selection”		Pops up the Page Selection panel, which lets you jump directly to a page. See “Going to a Specific Page.” This option is not available to unstructured documents.

Note: Some of these items are not available to unstructured PostScript documents. See “Fixing PostScript Problems” to read about recognizing and fixing unstructured PostScript documents.

The Bookmarks Menu

Bookmarks lets you mark pages for reference and printing.

“Previous Bookmark”		Brings you to the last marked page before the current page.
“Next Bookmark”		Brings you to the next marked page after the current page.
“Bookmark Info”		Pops up the Bookmark Information panel, where you can see all your marked pages.
“Mark/Unmark This Page”		Marks an unmarked page, and unmarks a marked page. See “Marking Pages.”

Note: If your PostScript file is unstructured, it will not recognize pages for marking. You can correct this problem by using a filter on the file. See “Fixing PostScript Problems.”

The Controls Menu

The Controls menu lets you interrupt ShowPS before it fully displays a page.

“Interrupt”		Interrupts page loading. Useful if you open a page that takes too long to appear in the ShowPS window.
“Continue”		Continues page loading after Interrupt.

The View Menu

The View menu lets you change the orientation and scale of a page and access a shortcut panel.

“Shortcut Panel”		Pops up the Shortcut panel, featuring buttons to press for File, Page, and Controls menu commands. See “Using Shortcuts.”
“Scale Selection”		Pops up the Scale Selection panel, which lets you magnify or reduce the page on screen. See “Magnifying or Reducing Pages.”
“Page Orientation”		Lets you change the orientation of the page. See “Changing the Page Orientation.”

The Options Menu

The Options menu lets you customize ShowPS for viewing PostScript.

To turn an option ON, click its box. A checkmark appears to let you know that option is on.
To turn an option OFF, click its box until the checkmark disappears.

“Watch Progress”		Lets you see partial page data while ShowPS is loading. Useful if you are trying to open a large PostScript document and, after a few seconds, you still don't see anything in the viewer. Turn “Watch Progress” ON to see if ShowPS is still preparing the page.
“Emulate Paper Trays”		Changes the size of the display area to reflect a change in the paper tray size. Use “Reopen” in the File menu after changing this option.
“Reposition EPS Files”		ShowPS aligns Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) images so the top left corner of the image is in the top left corner of the page. To see the actual location of the image, turn “Reposition EPS Files” OFF and choose “Reopen” in the File menu.
“Substitute Fonts”		When this option is ON, ShowPS substitutes Courier for fonts unavailable in your environment. If you turn this option OFF, ShowPS does not substitute Courier for unavailable fonts and cannot display documents that require unavailable fonts. Use “Reopen” in the File menu after changing this option.
“Ignore Comments”		ShowPS normally uses all document structuring convention (DSC) comments it finds in a document. Sometimes the DSC comments in a PostScript file are not quite right, and your doucument will not appear the way it should, or not appear at all. Turn “Ignore Comments” ON and choose “Reopen” from the File menu to view PostScript files that do not appear correctly. Make sure you turn this option OFF when you are finished viewing the problem file. Also see “Fixing PostScript Problems.”
“Monochrome”		ShowPS normally displays documents in color wherever color is specified. Turn this option ON to display color documents as they will look on a black and white printer.
