This was posted to: comp.sys.sgi.announce comp.sys.sun.announce comp.os.linux.announce Hi, folks! Just a quick note that the famous Amiga MOD Soundtracker for Sun Sparc- stations, SGI Indigos, Linux and what not has been updated. The new ver- sion number is 3.10. You can always obtain the latest version of Tracker via anonymous-ftp: Address: nic.funet.fi (128.214.6.100) Directory: /pub/unix/sound Files: tracker-3.10.tar.Z tracker-3.10.readme The program is also available on many other sites, among them are the Aminet archives (e.g. amiga.physik.unizh.ch in /pub/aminet/mus/play). Now what is Tracker? This nifty program can play Amiga MOD files on one of the machines mentioned above. MODs are tiny (usually between 50-500 KB) music files consisting of up to 31 samples (each of them being up to 64 KB large) and sequencing information. What the Sound- tracker does is converting the samples to the pitches described in the sequencing information. Several effects (echo, vibrato) can also be added. Despite the rather small size of the MODs, some of them sound really good and they're quite entertaining if you have nothing important to do. The Amiga MODs are very popular. There are players and editors for all sorts of machines (Amigas, Atari STs, MS-DOS PCs, NeXTs, Macs, SGIs, Suns, etc.) and if you have anonymous-ftp access, you can get your hands on several Gigabytes of MODs. Here are the names of five MOD classics to get you started: nic.funet.fi:/pub/amiga/audio/modules/RomeoKnight/mod.BoesendorferP.S.S.lha (very interesting piano song, Rag-Time-ish) nic.funet.fi:/pub/amiga/audio/modules/misc/mod.RhythmIsADancer.lha (Remix of the well-known song by Snap; there are two versions, the other one is called mod.RhythmIsaDancer.lha) nic.funet.fi:/pub/amiga/audio/modules/misc/mod.SpaceDebris.lha (excellent Pop/Techno song) nic.funet.fi:/pub/amiga/audio/modules/U4ia/mod.1993.lha (Pop classic by the famous MOD writer "U4ia" [Euphoria]) If you don't have LHA for Unix, ftp to garbo.uwasa.fi and get lha101u.tar.Z in /unix/arcers. If you want to know more about MODs and players, check out the comp.sys.amiga.audio newsgroup. If you like the Tracker program, mail the author (the address is included in the documentation). He is planning to put up a mailing list for updates of the Tracker. Well, so much for this announcement. Enjoy! Lukas Wunner. *** "Fer sell cheep: IBM spel chekker.
