To fix the problem, please do the following: % uncompress xterm.Z % su # mv /usr/bin/X11/xterm /usr/bin/X11/xterm.orig # chmod 0 /usr/bin/X11/xterm.orig # cp /usr/bin/X11/xterm # chmod 4755 /usr/bin/X11/xterm The checksum for the fixed xterm is: % sum xterm 58517 1376 xterm You can verify that the fixed xterm is installed by doing an "xterm -help" and verifying the following lines appear: -/+l turn on/off logging (not supported) -lf filename logging filename (not supported) If you have an IRIX 5.0.x system, it is recommended you upgrade your system to IRIX 5.1.x where the xterm security problem is fixed. Additionally, users of IRIX 5.1.x systems should do the following: % su # chmod 0 /usr/bin/X11/exterm exterm is a special internationalized version of xterm used by a few customers. A fixed version of exterm will be released soon.
