The EM945 EISA FDE Adapter
----------------------------------------

You can take advantage of Predictive Pipelining, Cogent's
innovative data transfer technology, by using eMASTER+ adapters
in both the client and server computers. Refer to the eMASTER+
User Manual for information about configuring your EM945 EISA FDE
   adapter for Predictive Pipelining.

If you are using a Compaq SystemPro XL and would like to configure
for more than four EM945 EISA FDE adapters, contact Cogent Technical
   Support.

EM945 EISA FDE and EISA burst mode
----------------------------------------

The EM945 EISA FDE adapter is capable of supporting on some machines
the EISA burst mode data transfer technology for 33 MByte/sec.
data transfers across the bus. For compatibility reasons, the
EM945 EISA FDE is configured by default to run in non-burst mode.

However, you can easily enable EISA bursting on your
EM945 EISA FDE adapter. To configure your adapter to support bursting,
run the EISA configuration program for your system and edit the default
settings for your EM945 EISA FDE adapter's 'Bus Master
Parameters' setting. To enable bursting, change the setting from
'Non-Burst'to 'Burst Enabled.' Enabling bursting will improve
performance on machines which support the EISA burst mode, and
will result in incompatibility symptoms for those machines which
   do not support bursting.

eMASTER+ Setup Program
----------------------------------------

The eMASTER+ Setup Program requires MS-DOS version 3.3 or
   later.

Before running the eMASTER+ Setup Program, make sure no network
drivers are running in the system.

To run Diagnostics on one or more adapters, the adapters must be
installed in machines located on a private network.

Predictive Pipelining on NetWare 3.1x servers
----------------------------------------

To enable Predictive Pipelining, you must add the following
   line to the STARTUP.NCF file:

SET MAXIMUM PHYSICAL RECEIVE PACKET SIZE=4202

Predictive Pipelining on NetWare 3.1x and NetWare 4.x servers
----------------------------------------

You can disable Predictive Pipelining on a specific eMASTER+
adapter by using MAXSIZE=1514 as a LOAD line parameter.

NetWare 3.1x and NetWare 4.x Server driver
----------------------------------------

To improve performance in NetWare 3.1x and NetWare 4.x
servers, you may increase the value of TTON, a LOAD line
parameter. Note that increasing TTON may result in
   compatibility problems.

TTON specifies in bus clocks how long the Intel 82596 chip
on the EM945 EISA FDE adapter will hold on to the bus before
releasing it, providing no other bus mastering device requests the
bus. For compatibility with other bus mastering devices in the system,
the default TTON value is 50. To change the value of TTON, type:

   LOAD [C:] EM935_4.LAN TTON='xx'

Where 'xx' is a number between 20 and 5000 which indicates
the number of bus clocks the Intel 82596 chip will hold on to the bus.

   range: 20-5000
   default: 50
