Installation Notes for Windows for Workgroups 3.11:

  1. We recommend that you install the NDIS 3.0 driver (IBMESAN3.386)
on Windows for Workgroups 3.11. We have run into various WFW
errors when using the NDIS 2.0 driver (IBMESAN2.DOS) on WFW 3.11.

  2. If you install more than one IBM EISA Ethernet Adapter in your
machine, you need to add the SlotNumber= parameter to the
PROTOCOL.INI file. WFW 3.11 scans all slots to find cards that
match id's in the NDIS 3.0 driver. However, when there is more
than one card with the same id in one machine, SlotNumber= is
      used to differentiate the cards.

After installing the NDIS 3.0 driver for each card, modify the
PROTOCOL.INI file. This file is located in the windows base
directory (environment variable: windir). Under each driver
[IBM$ESAN3x] section of the PROTOCOL.INI file, insert a line
SlotNumber=#. x only exits in the non-first occurrence of the
driver. # is the slot where the corresponding card is installed.

Note:
If the adapter cable is not connected when you start Wiwdows, you
way see an error message such as device is not available. You
will need to connect the cable and restart the machine.

Note:
In POTOCOL.INI, the IOBase defaults to 0x3000 and this may not be
the location of the board. In which case an ADAPTER IS NOT PRESENT
AT I/O Base error is given.
