INSTALLATION NOTE
-----------------

Please be sure to install the GPIB Software for Windows 95 before
installing your GPIB hardware. If you install any Plug-and-Play GPIB
hardware before installing the software, Windows 95 will detect the
hardware but will be unable to install a driver for it. Install the
software by running the "Setup.exe" program found on your GPIB Software
for Windows 95 "Setup Disk". After Setup is complete, shut down your
computer and install your GPIB hardware. Power on your computer and
Windows 95 should now properly detect any Plug-and-Play GPIB hardware
you have installed. If not, open the Windows 95 Device Manager tab,
which is accessible from the "System" control panel applet, and remove
any GPIB hardware that is listed under "Other Devices". Then, restart
your computer. Windows 95 should now properly detect your GPIB
hardware.

If you have any problems, please consult the "Getting Started" manual
that came with your GPIB hardware. You can also view an online copy
of the manual on our GPIB Web site:

      http://www.natinst.com/GPIB/win95.htm

NOTE FOR GPIB-ENET USERS
------------------------

If you are using the GPIB-ENET please read the "GpibEnet.txt" file for
the latest information regarding this interface.

GPIB Software for Windows 95, Version 1.30, includes the following new
features
----------------------------------------------------------------------

  * Support for the following hardware:

     - GPIB-USB
     - PXI-8150

  * NI Spy, an application monitor program. It is a debugging tool
that you can use to monitor the calls that your application makes
to the National Instruments drivers. NI Spy replaces the GPIB Spy
utility; in addition to monitoring GPIB calls, it also monitors
    NI-VXI and NI-VISA calls.

NOTE FOR GPIB-PCII/IIA USERS
----------------------------

Your GPIB-PCII/IIA board can be configured for use in one of two modes,
PCII mode or PCIIA mode. National Instruments recommends that you use
your board in PCII mode under Windows 95, not in PCIIA mode, due to a
problem with the Windows 95 Device Manager that may arise when using
your board in PCIIA mode. For more details, refer to the "Getting
Started with Your GPIB-PCII/IIA and the GPIB Software for Windows 95"
manual. If you do not have a copy, you can download one from either
our Web or our FTP sites. The manual is in the Adobe Acrobat format.
If you do not already have Adobe Acrobat, it can be downloaded from
either site also. The address to the GPIB section of the National
Instrument's home page is:

      http://www.natinst.com/gpib/

Please refer to the Download section to obtain the manual.
Alternatively, you can directly access our FTP site at:

      ftp://ftp.natinst.com/

NOTE ABOUT GPIB SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION
--------------------------------------

The GPIB Software for Windows 95 is configurable through a utility
that is fully integrated with the Windows 95 Device Manager. To
configure the GPIB software, double-click the System icon in the
Control Panel, which can be opened from the Settings selection of the
Start menu. Select the Device Manager tab in the System Properties
dialog box that appears, click the View devices by type radio button
at the top the Device Manager tab, and double-click on the National
Instruments GPIB Interfaces icon.

NOTE ABOUT PRE-EXISTING GPIB DOS DRIVERS
----------------------------------------

The GPIB Software for Windows 95 can be enabled to run your existing
DOS GPIB applications under Windows 95. Any existing DOS-based GPIB
utilities, such as AppMon, that may still be installed on your system
are not supported under Windows 95 and should not be used. The
utilities included with the GPIB Software for Windows 95, like NI Spy,
have been developed to work with existing DOS GPIB applications,
and should be used instead.

NOTE ABOUT THE VXIpc Model 745, 850, and 860 and PXI-8156
---------------------------------------------------------

The VXIpc Models 745, 850, 860, and PXI-8156 embedded controllers each
have AT-GPIB/TNT compatible hardware embedded on the motherboard. The
resources given to the embedded AT-GPIB/TNT hardware, except for the
DMA channel for PXI-8156 as it does not support DMA, are fixed at:

      Base Address: 0x2C0
      Interrupt Level: 11
      DMA Channel: 5

In addition, the VXIpc Models 745, 850, 860, and PXI-8156 each come
with the GPIB software pre-installed. Therefore, you can immediately
begin using the embedded AT-GPIB/TNT hardware without installing the
hardware or the GPIB software on your computer.

If you need to re-install the GPIB software, the name of the embedded
controller (for example, VXIpc-745) will appear as one of the choices
in the Add New Hardware Dialog. You should choose the appropriate
controller in the list. The resources for the embedded AT-GPIB/TNT
hardware cannot be modified and the hardware cannot be physically
removed (nor should it be removed from the Windows 95 Device Manager).
