This README.TXT file is for the Netware Server device driver for Digital
Equipment Corporation's EtherWORKS Turbo EISA family of Ethernet Adapters.
Supported Adapters: DE425

The name of the Novell Netware Server Driver is DC21040.LAN

DE425 EISA Board Installation
----------------------------

To install the DE425 EISA Ethernet board in a EISA machine, plug the board into
a EISA slot in your machine.

   - Execute the EISA Configuration Utility supplied with your machine.
   - Load the !DEC4250.CFG file located in the root directory of this
     diskette.
   - Select the interrupt to the selected EISA Slot.

The default cable type selection is twisted-pair (TP). To connect to a
ThinWire or thickwire network, select AUI. Be sure to check the shunt jumper
on the board to select either ThinWire or ThickWire cable.

Once the card is installed, proceed to the "Driver installation on Server
(Netware 3.1X)" section or the "Driver installation on Server (Netware 4.0)"
section of this README.TXT file, depending on the version of Netware you are
currently using.

Driver installation on Server (Netware 3.1X)
--------------------------------------------
*** Note: These files should be dated no earlier than:
	  ETHERTSM.NLM 09/28/93
	  LSLENH.NLM 11/16/92
	  MONITOR.NLM 10/26/92
	  MSM31X.NLM 10/04/93
	  PATCHMAN.NLM 02/04/93
Contact Novell for updated software if your date codes
	  are older than these.
*** Note: It is not necessary to load the PATCHMAN.NLM or LSLENH.NLM files
	  on a Netware 3.12 server.

To install the DC21040.LAN driver on the Netware server:

1. Login as SUPERVISOR from a client system, to your server.

2. Copy the DC21040.LAN file from the A:\NOVELL\SERVER\3_1X directory of the
software diskette to your server SYS:SYSTEM directory.

You must add one of the loading sequences described in the AUTOEXEC.NCF
template located in THE A:\NOVELL\SERVER\3_1X directory of the software
diskette to your server AUTOEXEC.NCF. You must specify either TP or AUI,
otherwise the driver will default to AUTOSENSE.

3. Use the "DOWN" command at the Netware prompt on the server system to
shutdown the server and bring it up again. The DE425 will now be your
   network card.

Note that you may override the default TP cable configuration selection
by typing either AUI or TP_FULL_DUPLEX.

That is, load DC21040 frame=ethernet_ii AUI or
	    load DC21040 frame=ethernet_ii TP_FULL_DUPLEX

If you have only one DE425 board installed in the server, there is no
need to specifiy the slot number in the LOAD command line. If there
are multiple DE425 boards, the driver will detect it and ask the
operator for the slot selection, or the operator can specify the slot
number in the LOAD command line. For example, refer to the AUTOEXEC.NCF
demo file in this diskette. Note that EISA slots are counted from 0.
The first DE425 EISA board is treated as if it is installed in slot
   1. The next one will be slot 2, etc.
