MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE BACKED UP ALL DATA FROM THE TARGET COMPUTER PRIOR TO RUNNING THIS PROGRAM! 1. Put the working system on the DOCKII and run LOADSOFT to create the boot diskette. 2. Click OK on the last window that reads: ******************************************************************* * * * Leave diskette in drive A. Click OK to reboot * * system to continue with the download. * * * ******************************************************************* This will reboot the system from the diskette. 3. Once you have booted off the diskette, you will see the following question. *************************************************************************** * * * The "ThinkPad Preload Diskette" should be in drive A: of the ThinkPad. * * * * If this is correct press Y to continue or press N to stop. * * * *************************************************************************** Answer Y 4. Next, the message below will be displayed. ****************************************************************************** * * * If the "ThinkPad Preload Diskette" is configured for this CD ROM, you may * * continue using it; Or, you may let LoadSoft configure the diskette now * * to load the current CD ROM driver for this DOCK. * * * * NOTE: If you decide to let LoadSoft configure the diskette, this * * ThinkPad must be accurately configured to the current CDROM * * drive for the DOCK II. * * * ****************************************************************************** You will need to press ENTER for the following question to be displayed. ************************************************************ * * * DO YOU WANT LOADSOFT TO CONFIGURE THE DISKETTE NOW? * * * ************************************************************ Since the system you are currently using is configured to run the CDROM, you will need to answer "Yes" to this question. LoadSoft will then configure the boot diskette to load the CD driver. 5. The boot diskette is now configured to run the CD ROM off the DOCKII. You can save this diskette for future "DOA" systems. When using this diskette, you will need to answer "No" to the question above so that LoadSoft will not try to re-configure the diskette from the "DOA" system. Once you press ENTER, the following message will be displayed. **************************************************************************** * * * WARNING!!! This ThinkPad is about to be RE-PARTITIONED, automatically * * rebooted, and then FORMATTED so the Preload can be placed * * on the hard drive. * * * * If you would like to continue press C or press N to stop * * * **************************************************************************** Answer "No" to this question. 6. Take the working system off the DOCKII. Put the DOA system on the DOCKII and boot off the boot diskette you just created. 7. When you are prompted with the question in Step 4, answer "No". Your diskette is already configured to run on the DOCKII's CDROM drive. When you get to the question in Step 5, answer "C" to continue. This will rebuild your DOA system with the Preload on the CD. NOTE: ===== Don't forget to keep this diskette for future use. You may want to label the diskette and indicate which CDROM drive the diskette is bootable to. When you get a DOA system, all you need to do is boot up the diskette to download. Make sure you answer No when asked if you want LoadSoft to re-configure the diskette. If you answer Yes, the current configuration will be wiped out and you will need to use a working system to re-build the diskette. * IBM is a registered trademarks of International Business Machines Corporation.
