Readme file contents -DVgate Ver.2.3 Overview -Precautions (Common) -Precautions (DVgate Motion) -Specify Premiere using the above preset files -DVgate Plug-In Install -NTSC/PAL Switch -------------------------------------------------------------- DVgate Ver.2.3 Overview DVgate Ver.2.3 Overview DVgate Ver.2.3 allows you to capture movie and still images from the DV device connected to the i.LINK (IEEE1394) jack of the PC using a DV cable, and also allows you to save the captured movie and still images to a file. You can also edit the captured movie file(s) and still image file(s) and record the captured movie file(s) to the connected DV device. DVgate Ver.2.3 consists of the following software. DVgate Motion: Captures movie and converts and saves the captured movie to AVI file (DV CODEC). Can record the DV CODEC AVI file to the DV device. DVgate Still: Captures an image from the DV device and converts and saves the image to all-purpose graphics data. DVgate Assemble: Cuts and edits the DV CODEC AVI file created by DVgate Motion and the still image captured by DVgate Still. Can convert and save the edited movie and image to DV CODEC AVI file and MPEG1/ MPEG2 file (*1) respectively. You can create a video CD using the MPEG1 file in the model with video CD creator. (*1) Some models cannot convert to MPEG2 file. DVgate Plug-in for Adobe(R) Premiere(R): DVgate Plug-in for Adobe(R) Premiere(R) captures the DV movie directly on Adobe(R) Premiere(R) Ver.5.1 (including LE). Divides the movie whose size exceeds 2GB in the same form as DVgate Motion automatically and creates the file on the hard disk. This Plug-in is installed in the model in whitch Adobe(R) Premiere(R) is built. You can install this Plug-in later in the model in whitch Adobe(R) Premiere(R) is not built. NTSC/PAL Switch: A utility to switch the setting of a PC in order to match the video format (NTSC or PAL) of the connected device. -------------------------------------------------------------- Precautions (Common) This program can only control household DV devices manufactured by Sony (limited to models sold in the country where the computer was purchased). DVgate Motion has been confirmed to work with household DV devices models equipped with an i.LINK connector (including media converters and Digital 8) sold before the end of April 2000. (As of May 10, 2001) [In case you use Sony Digital Video Camera Recorder DCR-VX1000 /DCR-VX700] If your computer is a Windows Me machine, this software cannot be used in combination with DCR-VX1000 and DCR-VX700 (terminal connected later on during after sales service.). [In case you first connect the DV device] If the Windows Me is installed on your computer and you first connect the DV device to a computer, please connect the DV device to a computer before you start the DVgate program. You can start the DVgate program after the DV device has been recognized. Please open the My Computer and check that the DV device icon is displayed to know that the DV device has been recognized. [In case you use the SONY digital video cassette recorder] If the Windows Me is installed on your computer and you first connect to the digital video, [Add new hardware Wizard] dialog appears and [AV/C Tuner] is detected. In this case, please select [Automatic search for a better driver (Recommend)] and click [Next]. [Windows was unable to locate the software for this device] appears, however, there is no problem to use the DVgate program. [Recommended settings and restriction of DVgate application] Each DVgate application needs hardware resource like CPU and hard disk. Please make sure you read the recommended settings and restriction included in the online Help or the instruction manual. [Settings for Computers Running Office XP] If your computer is WindowsMe and Microsoft Office XP is installed, disable the [Indexing Service] [BookShelf] function to avoid lost frames during capture and duplicated frames during output. For disabling the [Indexing Service] [BookShelf] function, please refer the online help of Office XP applications (ex Microsoft Word). [Settings for Computers Running Norton AntiVirus 2001] If Norton AntiVirus 2001 is installed in your computer, disable the [Auto-Protection] function to avoid lost frames during capture and duplicated frames during output. Disable the function according to the following procedure. 1DRight-click the Norton AntiVirus icon on the task bar and select [Disable Auto-Protect]. –Norton AntiVirus 2001 is a registered trademark of Symantec Corporation. [Display resolution/color] This software is intended to work with more than High Color (16bit) Windows display. It may not show colors correctly with less than 256 color Windows display. [Resolution Change] When you change the display resolution, please exit the application and launch it again. When you set the Windows Display properties to high resolution, high refresh rate and high color, the movie may not be smoothly displayed. [Monitor Display] Though you can change the DV CODEC image resolution on the monitor window of this software (DVgate Motion, DVgate Still and DVgate Assemble), if you change the resolution to higher, the movie or sound may not be smoothly played depending on the model. In this case, please reduce the resolution. [Compensation for contents] If capture and record fail because of a DV device or software problem, please be advised that we cannot compensate for the contents. [Copyright] Unauthorized use of the captured or recorded movie(s) except for individual fun is prohibited. -------------------------------------------------------------- Precautions (DVgate Motion) [In the case of using Sony Digital8] Please switch to [Capturing Clips in the Manual Capture Mode] when you capture the recorded movie in analog format (High8/ 8mm). [In the case of a tape with unrecorded area] If unrecorded area of the tape is between IN point and OUT point, the capture may not be correctly executed. Please make sure to set IN and OUT points without including unrecorded area between them. [Capture from the discontinuous time code area] If you want to start to capture from discontinuous time code area, please try to capture in [Manual Capture] mode. [The splice recording from the end of recorded area] In the [EXPORT-Auto] mode, if you start to record the movie from the end of recorded area on the DV tape, DVgate may not detect the correct position and not perform splice recording. Please insert 30 or more frames of blank image at the end of the original image when performing splice recording. [Cancel during controlling the DV device] When Windows 2000 Professional or Windows Me is installed on your computer and DVgate Motion controls the DV device, it may take a long time to exit the operation even if the operation is cancelled. [In case you use the DV device with the PC-Signal convert function] If you record the movie in the DV device, please do not use the PC-Signal convert function. For the PC-Signal convert function, please refer to the manual of your DV device. [Adding blank images of Wide TV Mode size when recording video] Blank images that are added when recording video cannot be output in 16:9 (Wide TV Mode) as their aspect ratio is 4:3. To output blank images in Wide TV Mode, first make a blank image file using DVgate Assemble according to the following procedure. Then add the file at the beginning or/and at the end of the Record List. In the Output dialog, select "Do not append" blank images and then output the video. Procedure for creating a blank image file in Wide TV Mode. 1.Create a still image that will become the blank image. 2.Launch DVgate Assemble, select "File" - "Add" to add the file created in step 1. At this time, select "Wide TV Mode" in the Add dialog and set the number of blank images in the "frames" edit box. 3.In the DVgate Assemble window, select "File" - "Output" and save the image file. [Problems in capturing sound files] When you select [Sound only] as the file format in the [Capture Setting] dialog box and capture, if the file division occurs two or more times, the sound will not be captured from ] the second file onwards. In that case, capture again from the position where the second division occurred. -------------------------------------------------------------- Specify Premiere using the above preset files Specify the following settings in order to edit the AVI file captured and saved by DVgate Motion on Adobe Premiere without using DVgate Plug-in. 1. Launch Adobe Premiere. 2. Select [Load] in [New Project Settings] dialog box. 3. Select [Sony DV software CODEC - NTSC(or PAL)] from [Available Project Settings] in [Load Project Settings] dialog box. 4. Click [OK] button. When you install Adobe Premiere to the PC not pre-installed it yet, you need to install Plug-In in. -------------------------------------------------------------- DVgate Plug-In Install When you install Adobe Premiere to the PC not pre-installed it yet, you need to install Plug-In in accordance with the following procedure. [In case of Premiere5.1(LE)] 1. Open "C:\Program Files\Sony\DVgate\Premiere Plug-in\5.1" folder located in the directory of DVgate installed in Explorer. 2. Execute Setup.exe located in "Plug-ins" directory. 3. Install the DVgate Plug-In in accordance with the direction . [In case of Premiere6.0] 1. Open "C:\Program Files\Sony\DVgate\Premiere Plug-in\6.0" folder located in the directory of DVgate installed in Explorer. 2. Execute Setup.exe located in "Plug-ins" directory. 3. Install the DVgate Plug-In in accordance with the direction If more than one version of Adobe Premiere is installed in your computer, DVgatePlug-in may not be installed properly. In that case, please reinstall DVgatePlug-in after installing the target Adobe Premiere of DVgatePlug-in. -------------------------------------------------------------- NTSC/PAL Switch The folder where DVgate Motion is installed includes NTSC/PAL switch tool (NTSC/PAL Switch: DVsigchg.exe). [NTSC/PAL Switch Overview] NTSC/PAL Switcher is a utility to switch the settings of a PC in order to adapt to the video format (NTSC or PAL) of the connected device. General TV video format used in Japan and the US: NTSC General TV video format used in Western Europe: PAL The initial setting of the video format of this software is adapted to the setting of the country of purchase. Precautions for use [Preface] Please make sure you use this software after exiting each DVgate application (When you use Plug-in, please exit Adobe Premiere). You need to restart your PC after setting the utilities. [Restriction] Each DVgate application you purchased is already verified that it can work with the device having the video format (NTSC or PAL) applicable to the country of purchase. When you switch the video format to another one using the NTSC/PAL switch, the device is not verified to work in the switched mode. [How to use] Please launch the NTSC/PAL Switch by double-clicking DVsigchg.exe in the folder where DVgate Motion is installed.
