Installing the latest version of Mwave DSP for Windows 98

Required for the following systems:
- ThinkPad 760C, 760CD, 760E, 760ED, 760XD, & 765D.

If your ThinkPad is listed above and a version of the ThinkPad Mwave
for Windows 95 is already installed ( a version earlier than 2.25
(you will need to upgrade it to the latest version found on IBM's
Web site.  Older versions of Mwave DSP will not function properly
and will prevent your ThinkPad from using the power management
features under Windows 98.  Before upgrading your Mwave software,
you will need to download the updated Mwave DSP Features Diskettes
(version 2.25a) for Windows 95 off of IBM's Web site.

Note:
It is highly recommended that you install the latest version
of ThinkPad Mwave DSP BEFORE upgrading your ThinkPad to Windows 98.

1.4.1  Installing the latest version of Mwave DSP before upgrading
       to Windows 98. (6-7 min)

To install Mwave DSP on your ThinkPad under Windows 95, please follow
the instructions provided below:

 1. Start Windows 95.
 2. Insert Disk 1 of the Mwave DSP Features Diskette for Windows 95
    into the diskette drive.
 3. Click: Start => Run.
 4. Type A:\SETUP in the 'Open' field and click on [OK].  This will
    start the Mwave ThinkPad Setup program.  Follow the instructions on
    the screen.
 5. If the Mwave Setup program detects a previous version installed,
    for the best results, it's recommended that you allow the Setup
    program to remove the older version before installing the newer
    one.  Select the "Uninstall all of Mwave ThinkPad System
    (recommended)" and click [OK].
 6. When the Setup program has completed uninstalling the older version,
    remove Disk 1 from the diskette drive, and click on [OK] to restart
    your computer.
 7. After your computer restarts, Windows 95 will detect new hardware.
    Insert Disk 1 of the Mwave DSP Features Diskette for Windows 95
    into the diskette drive.
 8. When the "New Hardware Found" window appears on your screen, select
    "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" option and click
    on [OK].
 9. Confirm the drive letter is A:\ in the dialog box, and click on [OK].
10. When prompted, choose the path to copy the files to - we recommend
    using the provided default path  (C:\MWW).  When done, click on [OK].
11. Please follow the instructions presented to you on your screen.
    Insert disk 2 and disk 3 into the diskette drive when prompted to by
    the Setup program. .  After inserting each disk, confirm the drive
    letter is A:\ in the dialog box, and click on [OK].
12. When the installation is complete, remove any disk from the
    diskette driver, and click on [Yes] for the Setup program to restart
    your computer.
13. Once you have upgraded your computer to Windows 98, you will need
    to apply a fix provide by Microsoft.

**** IMPORTANT****
When a ThinkPad that has Mwave telephony and audio functionality returns
from Standby(suspend), the system will show a loss of audio and modem
capability.  To correct this problem, you must install a fix provided

and download the Mwave APM Patch.

1.4.2  Installing the latest version of Mwave DSP AFTER upgrading to
       Windows 98.  (9-10 min)

To install Mwave DSP on your ThinkPad under Windows 98, please follow
the instructions listed below:

1.  Start Windows 98.
2.  Click: Start => Settings => Control Panel.
3.  Double-click on the 'System' icon, then click on the
    'Device Manager' tab.
4.  Next, locate the "IBM Mwave Digital Signal Processors" entry and
    click on the '+' next to it.   Then double-click on "IBM ThinkPad
    Mwave DSP".  This will open up a 'Properties" window of the Mwave
    DSP device.
5.  Disable this device by clicking on the checkbox labeled, 'Disable
    in this hardware profile', then click on [OK].  Click on [Close] on
    the Device Manager window. Close Control Panel.   Shutdown Windows 98
    so that it powers off your ThinkPad and then restart your computer.
6.  When the IBM logo appears for the first time, you should hear two
    beeps.  The IBM logo will appear for a second time and will launch
    the Windows 98 splash screen.
7.  Next, insert Disk 1 of the Mwave DSP Features Diskette for Windows
    95 into the diskette drive.
8.  Click: Start => Run.
9.  Type A:\SETUP in the 'Open' field and click on [OK].  This will
    start the Mwave ThinkPad Setup program.  Follow the instructions
    presented to you on the screen by the Setup program. During this
    section of the Mwave install, you will be prompted with a message
    that says "A Mwave installation has been detected.  This install
    will over write, upgrade, your existing install.  Do you want to
    continue?"  Click on the 'Yes' button.  You will then be prompted
    to reboot your machine.  Click on 'OK.'
10. The Mwave Setup program will detect a previous version already
    installed.  For the best results, it's recommended that you allow
    the Setup program to remove the older version before installing
    the newer one.  Select the "Uninstall all of Mwave ThinkPad
    System (recommended)" option and click [OK].
11. When the Setup program has completed uninstalling the older
    version, remove Disk 1 from the diskette drive, and click on [OK]
    to restart your computer. When the IBM logo appears for the first
    time, you may hear two beeps.  The IBM logo will appear for a
    second time and will launch the Windows 98 splash screen.
12. After the next restart, an "Unknown Device" will be detected
    by the operating system.  Insert Disk 1 into the diskette drive
    and click on [Next].
13. Click on [Next] for the next 4 window boxes that appear on
    the screen - this will start copying files to your computer.
14. When prompted, choose the path to copy the files to - we
    recommend using the provided default path (C:\MWW).  When done,
    click on [OK].
15. Please follow the instructions presented to you on the screen.
    Insert disk 2 and disk 3 into the diskette drive when prompted
    to by the Setup program.  After inserting each disk, confirm the
    drive letter is A:\ in the dialog box, and click on [OK].
16. When the installation has completed, remove any disk from the
    diskette drive, and click [YES] for the  Setup program to restart
    your machine.
17. After your machine has restarted, Windows will detect Mwave
    devices in the system.  Perform the instructions under step 2 and
    step 3 again.
18. The "IBM ThinkPad Mwave DSP" entry should have a red "x" mark
    to the left of it.  Double click on this entry to open up its
    "Properties" window.  Click on [Enable Device].
19. Click on [NO] when the window to restart your computer appears
    on the screen.  Next, click on [OK] to close the "Properties"
    window, then click on [YES] to restart your machine.

Note:
You will need to perform steps 2, 3, 17, and 18 two successive times.

20. When the IBM logo appears for the first time, you should hear
    two beeps.  The IBM logo will appear for a second time and will
    launch the Windows 98 splash screen.  The operating system will
    now detect and configure all of the Mwave components on your computer.
21. Click: Start=>Run.
22. Type C:\MWW\install\setup in the 'Open' field and click on [OK],
    where C:\MWW is the default path or the location that you provide
    to copy the files to under step 13.
23. Click on [OK] to confirm the installation has completed - this
    will make the Mwave applications accessible from the Start Menu.

Note:   If you are installing Mwave DSP software on your ThinkPad
for the first time or if the MIDI is not functional, you will need
to install the Mwave DSP MIDI Features for Windows. This is a
separate installation and will require six diskettes.  For
installation instructions, please refer to the text file that
accompanies the MIDI feature diskettes.

**** IMPORTANT****
When a ThinkPad that has Mwave telephony and audio functionality
