To check the modem settings:

  • Click on the "Start Button"
  • Click on "Settings"
  • Click on "Control Panel"
  • Double-click on the "Modem" icon
  • If you don't see your specific modem listed, try installing the manufacturer's drivers. Always make sure you have the most recent driver available from your modem/computer manufacturer.
  • Click on the "Properties" button
  • Click on the "Connection" tab
  • Click on the "Advanced" button
    • Make sure that "Use flow control" is set to "Hardware" and "Use error control" is set to "Compress data".
    • If you have an USR or MWave modem, click here.
