US Robotics Sportster Modems:

  • Click on "Start"
  • Click on "Settings"
  • Click on "Control Panel"
  • Click on "Modem"
  • Click on "Properties"
  • Click on the "Connection" tab
  • Click on the "Advanced" tab
    • Make sure that Use Flow Control is checked, and set to Hardware.
    • Make sure "Error Control" is set to Compress Data.
    • Then, add to the extra settings field S12=0 and S0=4.
      • S0=4: Makes the modem wait for the 4th ring before picking up the call.
      • S12=0: Sets the modem delay to 0.
    • If your US Robotics Sportster Modem is a PnP Modem, then make sure you have removed all the jumpers on the modem board.

MWave sound/modem card:

  • IBM Aptivas with MWave modem/sound cards may experience difficulty, especially joining multi-player games via modem.
  • Contact IBM at: www.ibm.com for the latest software update for their MWave DSP which includes support for TAPI and Direct X.
