In a multiplayer network, direct connect, or modem game if someone cheats all other players will be notified that someone is cheating. This does not affect game play at all, but it was requested by several players just to keep things fair. There is no cheat notification during Hot Seat games. We have included text files of the speeches between the campaign scenarios. You can find them in the Heroes II directory on your hard drive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2) Multiplayer Compatibility: To play Heroes II - The Price of Loyalty maps in multiplayer mode, everyone must have Heroes II - The Price of Loyalty installed. You may play Heroes of Might and Magic II maps with a mixture of Heroes of Might and Magic II and Heroes II - The Price of Loyalty players. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3) Editor Compatibility: Maps created using the Heroes of Might and Magic II Gold editor are compatible with Heroes of Might and Magic II only if none of the new items or artifacts introduced in the expansion pack are used. When you save your map you will be told if it is compatible with Heroes of Might and Magic II. Maps created with the Heroes of Might and Magic II Gold editor are fully compatible with the Price of Loyalty expansion pack. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4) Hard Drive Space: The Heroes II version requires approximately 75MB of Hard disk space for installation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5) Troubleshooting / Performance: The biggest source of trouble when running Heroes II are Windows driver conflicts. If you have trouble getting Heroes II to run in Windows, try some of the following techniques: If you have a problem with your sound card, video card, or mouse, make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer. With some mouse drivers, the mouse leaves trails or does funny things when moved. This can normally be resolved by switching from a black and white cursor to a color cursor, in the system options window off the main adventure screen. If your system has problems playing the video sequences (like those that introduce the campaign), try switching to interlaced video in the system options window. This will also help if the sound hiccups or stutters while playing the video. If you have problems with the sound, try switching from CD Stereo to MIDI music, in the system options screen. CD Stereo: On machines with older CD-ROM drives including some Gateway 2000 double speed drives using CD stereo music may cause frequent crashes. If your computer freezes or crashes try changing the music type setting to MIDI in the system options menu on the adventure screen. Network: IPX is the preferred protocol in Windows network games. NetBIOS should be used in DOS to Windows 95 network games. Display: If you experience problems with your display, your system may have a conflict with the drivers installed by DirectX 5. Consult your graphics card manufacturer for the latest drivers. If the video sequences (i.e. the scenes) are not displaying quickly enough, switch your video to Interlaced (System Options, Video). Interlacing lowers the quality of the video slightly to speed performance. Mouse: Most mouse problems can be fixed by changing the mouse cursor to Black and White or to Color (under System Options, Mouse Cursor). Certain systems run better with Black and White cursors, others with Color cursors. If you have animated cursors, turning this off in windows will also correct certain problems. Performance: To increase performance, while playing Heroes II try: 1) Changing the video to interlaced mode. 2) Turning the music and/or sound to off. 3) Setting your speed and the computer speed to jump. 4) Setting the combat speed to very fast. 5) Play in full screen mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) Miscellaneous: The Official strategy guide for Heroes II is available from Prima Publishing.
