PMAC README (11/95) ------------------- This README file contains information pertaining to the installation, configuration, and operation of the Parallel Port NDIS MAC Driver, PMAC.OS2, and its related files. The PMAC package consists of: o PMAC.TXT - This README file o PMAC.OS2 - The Parallel Port NDIS device driver o PMAC.MSG - The message file for the driver o PMAC.EXE - A utility that will connect/disconnect the driver to/from the parallel port. The PMAC driver is an NDIS (Network Device Interface Specification) compliant device driver that enables the Parallel port to emulate a NIC (Network Interface Card). It will enable you to connect 2 PC's via the parallel port to establish a point-to-point "network" using existing protocol stacks. The driver looks like an Ethernet adapter to the protocol stack and uses a "LapLink" cable for the connection. To use this driver you will need 2 PC's with OS/2, a "LapLink" parallel cable, and an NDIS compliant protocol stack (e.g. a pair of machines running: OS/2 Peer, LAN Server/Requester, LAN Requester in peer mode, TCP/IP, etc.) Installation/Configuration -------------------------- The PMAC driver can be installed and configured using MPTS or LAPS. Simply install the driver as if it was a LAN Adapter. Re-boot the 2 machines, connect them with the proper cable and you are done. If you plan on using other devices attached to the LPT port (e.g. a printer) then you will need to add the paramater /IRQ to the printer statement in the config.sys. The line should look like: BASEDEV=PRINT01.SYS /IRQ or BASEDEV=PRINT02.SYS /IRQ Operation: ---------- Once the PC's are re-booted they are ready for networking. If you need to use the LPT port for any device other than the PMAC, then you need to disconnect the PMAC from the LPT by using the PMAC.EXE utility. PMAC.EXE is a utility that will connect/disconnect the driver to/from the LPT port. To release the LPT port, change to the IBMCOM directory and enter: "PMAC -R" and the LPT port will be released and usable by another device. When you are ready to reconnect the PMAC, enter: "PMAC -C". Notes: "LapLink" is a registered trademark of Traveling Software, Inc.
