Description

This is the NDIS 3.0 driver for the XIRCOM Pocket 
Ethernet II.  It is not compatible with the newer XIRCOM Pocket Ethernet III.  
You can determine the version of your adapter by checking the model number on 
the silver decal on its back.


Installation
------------

Before installing the adapter and driver you must determine the I/O port 
number and interrupt level used by your parallel port.  The easiest method
to find out the I/O port is to use the Windows NT utility WINMSD.  Start
WINMSD and push the "Devices" button.  Double click the "\Device\ParallelN" 
entry in listbox, where N is 0 for LPT1, 1 for LPT2, etc.  The port will be 
displayed in the last window.  Usually interrupt 7 is used for port 378 and
port 3BC, interrupt 5 is used for port 278.

LPT1 on most computers is port 378 and interrupt 7.  However, on COMPAQ 
systems LPT1 is port 3BC and interrupt 7.

Start the Control Panel and select the Network applet.

Push the "Add Adapter" button.

Choose "<other> Requires disk from manufacturer".

Enter the directory or drive containing the driver files.

Complete the dialog boxes and then push the button to "Restart the System".

The software is now installed.


Notes
-----

It is not necessary to disable the Parallel driver.  The network drivers load
first and the parallel port driver will be disabled automatically if a XIRCOM
adapter is found.

The XIRCOM adapter must be attached prior to starting Windows NT and can't be 
removed until Windows NT is shut down.

If you wish to use the parallel port for printing, the XIRCOM adapter must be
removed prior to starting Windows NT.


Problem Solving
---------------

If problems are encountered the Windows NT Event Viewer should be used to 
check the event log.  The XIRCOM driver logs errors indicating the cause of
any problems.
