ERS NT, Emergency Recovery System Features and Instructions: -------------------------- ERS NT does two Windows main files backups and three Registry, all Profiles NTuser.dat and boot files backups for Win NT (FAT). Windows main files Backups: -------------------------- Windows main files backup are done from Windows and gets zipped in the ErsNT\Zipped folder. Windows main files don't include the Registry files. Click either Windows #1 or Windows #2 button and let it do the backup. Depending on size and speed of computer, it will take about 3 to 12 minutes to do the backup. A restore batch files gets created and placed in the ErsNT directory, Win1.bat for backup #1 and Win2.bat for backup #2. Registry, all Profiles NTuser.dat and Boot files Backups: --------------------------------------------------------- As most of you know that you can't copy the Registry files while in the Windows NT environment, backup and restore has to be done from the command prompt. Open ErsNT.exe and click the Make Backup And Restore batch files button, it will create 9 batch files: 3 Registry, all Profiles NTuser.dat and boot files backup batch files called: Backsys1.bat Backsys2.bat Backsys3.bat 3 Registry, all Profiles NTuser.dat and boot files restore batch files called: Restsys1.bat Restsys2.bat Restsys3.bat Recreates Win1.bat and Win2.bat. And lastly, it creates ErsNT.bat, type Ersnt at the command prompt ErsNT.bat will popup and give you instructions on backup and restore. Backup and Restore: ------------------- As explained earlier Windows files backup are made from within the Windows environment. To restore the Windows backups or backup and restore the registry, has to be done from the command prompt. ERS NT needs the aid of some of Win95 or Win98 MS-DOS files: Command.com Attrib.exe Choice.exe Deltree.exe Edit.com Io.sys Xcopy.exe Xcopy32.exe All these files except Io.sys has to be copied to the ErsNT directory, without these files ERS NT backup and restore can't be carried out. Command.com and Io.sys has to be copied to the root directory C, unless you already have these two files in the root directory C. Start computer, select MS-DOS from the NT boot menu, if you don't have the Command.com and Io.sys in the root directory then it will give you error message. Once at the command prompt, type: ERSNT it will change directory to the ErsNT directory. if it didn't change directory then type: CD ERSNT There, if the ERSNT instruction page didn't popup then type ERS. It will give you instructions on how to backup and restore. Type: Backsys1, Backsys2 or Backsys3 to backup the Registry files. Type Restsys1, Restsys2 or Restsys3 to restore from desired Registry backup. Type Win1 or Win2 to restore from Windows #1 or #2 backups. Please print this page and save it. NOTE: You may need to add the .bat extension to the backup and restore batch files. ERS Boot Disk: ------------- You have to have a floppy that is formatted with Win95 or Win98 only. -- DON'T use WinNT formatted floppy, use Win95/98 to format the floppy because you can't boot with WinNT formatted floppy. -- DON'T use third party formatting tools and formatting with MS-DOS will NOT work with Win95 or Win98 bootdisks files. -- The following files should be copied to the ErsNT directory for ERS NT to work and be able to make an ERS boot disk: Use only Win95/98 files. Command.com Attrib.exe Choice.exe Deltree.exe Edit.com IO.sys Xcopy.exe Xcopy32.exe If using Win98 files then add: Xcopy32.mod LEGEND: ------- Where C:\ is mentioned, its considering "C" is the boot drive, Where Windows is mentioned, its considering WinNT is the Win NT Windows Directory. ERS NT runs in NEC computers that uses A as the boot drive and would recognize the Windows directory no matter what name it is called. All would recognize the StartMenu in any language. Where Registry or critical is mentioned, it means the Registry files, all Profiles NTuser.dat files and boot files.
