Under Windows 95/98, Norton Agent cannot be distributed as part of a
distribution job. You must install Norton Agent on the target machines. The install program is the same for Windows
95/98/NT.
To install Norton Agent on Windows 95/98, do one of the following:
- Copy AGNTINST.EXE, the Norton Agent install program, and its associated
files from the appropriate folder to a shared network folder and instruct end users to run AGNTINST.EXE from the
network folder.
- Copy AGNTINST.EXE and its associated files to a floppy disk, then run
AGNTINST.EXE from the floppy on each target machine.
- Copy AGNTINST.EXE and its associated files from the PROGRAM FILES\NSC\AGENTS\INTEL
folder to a shared network folder, then run AGNTINST.EXE from a login script or batch file.
Associated files are AGNTINST.INF, NSCAGENT.EXE, and SLINK.DLL.
Tip: When you install
Norton Agent for Windows 95/98, you may want to run AGNTINST.EXE with the /V switch. The resulting status information,
which appears on the machine to which you installed, can help you determine if Norton Agent installed properly.
The Norton Agent install program checks whether Norton Agent is already
running and only installs if necessary. After Norton Agent is installed, it is started automatically every time
the target machine is started.
