This file contains important information about this program. Please read this information very carefully before starting work.

Notes on Installation

If you have an older version of the Adabas D database installed on your system, you can install this version parallel to that one without any problem. Only the environment variables will be adjusted to the new version. The environment variables will need to be adjusted manually if you want to use the older version again. You can find more information on this below.

Make sure you have enough free memory in your temporary directory.

Restrictions for this Adabas D Version

This version of the Adabas D database is restricted to a maximum of 3 users and 100 MB in size. Information about additional versions of Adabas D can be found at http://www.adabas.com

Solaris-Sparc

To use Adabas D, the following variables have to be set:

DBROOT points to the installation directory of Adabas D e.g.: usr/local/adabas
DBCONFIG points to the directory $DBROOT/sql
DBWORK points to the directory $DBROOT/sql
The environment variable PATH must contain the following path $DBROOT/bin and $DBROOT/pgm
The environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH must contain the directory $DBROOT/lib.

Should problems occur when working with Adabas D, check these variables first.

The Adabas D setup will try to set the variables in the file .cshrc , .bashrc or .tcshrc. If this is not possible, you will have to set the variables manually before you can work with Adabas D.

Furthermore, for the use of Adabas D, the following kernel parameters must be set. The values depend on the system and the size of the database. The following values can be used to operate an Adabas D database.

set msgsys:msginfo_msgmni=10
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=10000000
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
set semsys:seminfo_semmap=100
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100

Should problems arise when you set the kernel parameters, please contact your system administrator.

Using Info-ZIP

StarOffice uses Info-ZIP to create and unpack the StarOffice installation, as well to pack and unpack the StarOffice XML file format. Info-ZIP programs (ZIP, UnZip and other utilities) are available free of charge and can be used in the source code and as an executable program. They can be attained by visiting Anonymous FTP sites such as ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*.

StarOffice Help / User's Guide

For technical reasons, alterations could have been made to the applications after the User's Guide went to press. The most up-to-date information can be found in the StarOffice Help.
