Installation of Word Viewer is designed to take place from within Microsoft Windows. If Windows is not running, please start it before continuing. 2. Make sure to close all applications first, and make sure you are not running any utilities or virus protection before proceeding. 3. If you have installed the Word Viewer from a prior Windows 95 beta, you should first uninstall that version before installing this one. For directions on uninstall, consult the README.DOC file included with the prior version of Word Viewer. 4. Run the SETUP.EXE program included with the Word Viewer. This is located in the same directory as this INSTALL.TXT file which should be located in \WORDVIEW. The will vary depending on whether you received the Word Viewer with Windows 95, with the Microsoft Office for Windows 95 Value Pack, or via other sources. 5. Word Viewer Setup will prompt you for a folder in which to install the Word Viewer. The default folder location for the Word Viewer is C:\PROGRAM FILES\WORDVIEW. 6. Click the "Installation" button to install the Word Viewer. 7. If Word Viewer Setup detects Word for Windows (version 6.0 or later) on your system, it will prompt you to determine which application should open Word documents by default. For example, the 'default' application is used to open files with *.DOC or *.DOT file extensions when they are double-clicked in the Windows 95 shell. - Choosing "Open with Word" means that Word for Windows will be used by default to open Word files. - Choosing "Open with Viewer" means that Word Viewer will be used by default to open Word files. NOTE: If you choose this option, you must run the Word for Windows Setup program to restore Word for Windows as the default viewer of Word documents. 8. To run Word Viewer, click the Start button on the Windows 95 Taskbar and then point to Programs. Microsoft Word Viewer is located there or in the Accessories folder. Alternatively, you can run Word Viewer by double-clicking on the WORDVIEW.EXE file in your \WORDVIEW folder. 10. The file README.DOC which gets installed with the Word Viewer contains instructions for distribution on floppy diskettes. Due to a last minute change, these instructions are not accurate. The Word Viewer files can be distributed on floppy diskettes, but to successfully install the Word Viewer you must first copy all of the files into a folder on your hard disk or network server. Then follow the directions above to run the setup program.
